The fundies wanted to make America a de facto Protestant theocracy and were essentially neo-puritans but because they did not have social media and the direct access the Woke Left has, more people saw them for the annoying vocal minority they were.
Much like the Woke Left, the fundies were useful idiots who only had their power because of the neocons but the Woke Left was able to get a lot farther because thanks to shit like Twitter, they had a direct line to the corporate neoliberal old guard and the echo chamber effect of social media in general made them look bigger than they actually are.
If Twitter existed in the 1980's and 1990's, the same thing would have happened but it'd be based in social conservatism and Protestant morality, as opposed to intersectional leftism, postmodern Marxism, and Critical Race Theory
