Nexpo/YT Horror Channels - Do they all suck

Do channels covering horror movies count as relevant? Dead Meat is the obvious one; I like James though he's quite SJW-flavored in his podcasts, and I'll usually put all the Saw or Elm Street killcounts on in the background while doing something tedious. Though since he refuses to cover more disturbing/infamous movies I prefer SpookyRice cause he does full breakdowns of films James won't touch with a 10 foot pole; he glosses over a lot of details sometimes and inserts a lot of guesswork in trying to figure out the themes and plot of what's usually just mindless gore porn, but I like how he can make even the most scarring movie feel like a cozy experience with his sense of humor.

(Also speaking of cozy, and since I've seen them mentioned before, MichaelLeroi/Bad Creepypasta is still one of my favorite channels for background noise and just when I want to laugh. Some of the jokes are hit or miss, especially if you don't get the reference or aren't familiar with UK-centric humor, and I admit they can come off as spergy sometimes but mostly it just feels like three friends (recently 4 with the addition of Gemma) goofing around. I just avoid the videos with Patreon "cohosts" who clearly don't know what they're doing so all in all it's a very comfy experience for the likes of moi  )

Nightmind is a bit pathetic. The Louise Paxton video he reads too much into the term 'mentalist' which is british slang for a nutter. Talk about overanalysing.
Yeah, it was just a joking way to refer to her friends. Like saying "these mad lads" or "hey it's my crazy pals" or something.
NightDocs did that a bit with the "chief priest" thing in his Cannibalism Restaurant video, it sounds like the guy was just making threats and drawing on some local legends rather than actually involved in anything nasty, but who knows. He did look into the local culture though, and found some corrupt politician and some really shitty reporting from the news media, that was really interesting and a good investigation. I just wish he didn't do this whole overproduced CGI thing where he's flying through the internet like it's Tron and he's ON A JOURNEY and THIS CASE IS REALLY GETTING TO HIM etc. Though that's a trend in TV documentaries too, it's been a joke for a while now that BBC documentaries always go on about the presenter's dramatic emotional journey to investigate some topic rather than just presenting the topic itself, so I can't judge him too harshly for doing the same thing they do. It's a shame because it started out really well, him setting himself apart from those docs by actually doing more investigating than they did.

Ryan Hollinger does some decent short analyses of horror films too. Sometimes he'll pick a fairly pulpy one and find something interesting in it, sometimes he'll recommend some indie ones that are pretty good but flew under the radar.

In the case Nexpo did find this thread and is finally bothering to read unfiltered and unbiased comments about him, I really hope this means he will return to his previously good content people liked him for.
If he's just saying those things to hype people up and then his videos will keep being the current cringey, ARG-infected, very-focused-on-his-image content and he keeps doing shit to entertain his children-teen viewers like interacting with Dad, he will deserve all the backlash he will get for lying.

Then again, he enjoys the attention of those young followers. So who knows anymore.

He's just not interesting as a person, nor are any of his friends. I agree in that we may very well see if he thinks his original audience is worth preserving, or the 13 year old section that's a more likely merchandising opportunity.

One's good for Youtube, the other would be good for the thread, lol

If nexpoo wants to do a new kind of content, he should just start a new channel for it. Then keep his current channel for the content his first audience are used to. Everybody wins. Those that like both will sub to both, those that don't will stick with the one they like.

I wish horror youtubers would distinguish more between ARGs and fictional horror passing itself off as reality, but at this point I feel that I'm impotently sperging out about it because the colloquial definition of ARG has changed to mean any work that presents itself as real.

It's what made Night Mind's last video on Petscop so terrible, though. He seemed to be frustrated that Petscop didn't explain anything and didn't give viewers puzzles to solve to reveal more of the story because he didn't get that it wasn't an ARG—even though he's one of the horror youtubers who does distinguish between ARGs and unfiction.

This is in response to the pinned comment on that Chronicles of Reddit video. Somebody actually said that they liked the old style of videos more compared to the acting stuff and he said this in response.

I actually used to love Nexpo's stuff and seeing this gives me a bit of hope that he'll try to make at least some form of improvement.
Has anyone Talked about Jim Cant Swim for his true crime stuff? Its really interesting to have as background noise and he covers some cases i haven't heard about.
My favorite JCS video is the one on Stephen McDaniel. Guy barely moved a fucking inch during an entire hours-long interrogation, and even stared at a closed door for several minutes completely unmoving when nobody was in the room until somebody else came in.

I like the Alec Minassian one. He talked about how autism doesn't necessarily mean psychopathy and most autists aren't violent, BUT he shows how it was an important factor in how Minassian behaved in the interrogation and his bizarre thought process in deciding to do a mass killing. Which he could not shut up about (along with his le epic hardcore gamer memes) once the cop pretended to have some common ground with him.
The Prince Andrew Newsnight one was good too, he did a decent amount of research into what was going on at the times Andy was talking about (whether he'd have had time to go to his kids' pizza party and then go to Tramp nightclub after, when he was travelling to the US and stayed with Epstein etc). The Behaviour Panel has a good analysis of that one too.

I used to love Nexpo's channel, but for fuck's sake has he crashed. I don't want to see his stupid face and I don't give a fuck about his scawwy childhood memowies or his personal life drama. I watched his channel for even, calm coverage of spooky internet shit with minimal autism or fake personality. I abhor the YouTube male personality facade.

I haven't watched his latest Reddit video because there's no subtitles on it, but I have been incredibly disappointed with several of his new videos.

I mean his reddit video is a return to form to his old content along with how he is now aware people don't like his skits rather than trying to be like MamaMax (who I think influenced Nexpo's decision to use live action skits)

Well once I have a quiet moment maybe I will be pleasantly surprised!

MamaMax gives me a bad taste in my mouth, his intents are good, but he is so full of himself while doing it, the dramatic shots of himself covered in blood, it's like he cares more about how HE looks like a hero online, rather than trying to stop these kind of people from accessing children over the internet in the first place. Even during the phone call with one through Skype he just has to fucking record his face.
Which, to be fair, is understandable as being a raging narcissist is a requirement before becoming a Youtuber. I wouldn't be surprised if he had skeletons in his closet himself and is trying to make up for it but that's probably a bit too tinfoily.
I don't want to put someone down whose actions seem to be a net positive (at least as of my typing this), but he rubs me the wrong way. His editing style and skillset are ill matched for the theme of the videos he makes; so much so that I can't take them seriously. I feel like he's trying to make himself into a 'character' that younger youtube viewers ( maybe 13-17 year old crowd?) will like and watch instead of treating the material he's discussing in a formal documentary-esque way.

Anyone who works that hard to make themselves look like a badass is someone to keep an eye on. So no, not tinfoily at all- as I guess I got that vibe as well.

I think the Youtuber related to creepy stuff that has really gone off the deep end is That Creepy Reading who has gone more pretentious and is just "Blame it on Jorge" 2.0 in terms of content. He also has gotten very preachy politically in some videos.

Was pretty disappointed by Nexpo's newest video, although I was looking forward to it.

The reddit posts he's talking about were obviously made up "nosleep style" in order to get reddit karma and there was zero evidence showing that they might be real. I mean, that's fine I guess, but Nexpo was treating them as if he didn't know they were most likely bullshit. No reddit story really stood out to me or made me feel uneasy.

Also, as @Fiveish pointed out, he's now selling merch with him and his friends on it, wearing their animal masks and wielding baseball bats, which is autistic as hell.

Also, at one point during the video, he included a "glitch" for some reason where the audio and visuals got corrupted. I hope he's not hinting at starting an ARG.

Anyway. I'm pretty much done with his channel. Don't understand why it's so difficult to just recreate his old content.

100% agree. I love the Kill Count videos but the podcast isn't fun. Chelsea's cutesy vibe is a bit too much and you can tell they are terrified of saying anything PROBLEMATIC.

>Nexpo announces the return to his old content
but also
>Nexpo is selling merch with him and friends!
>and is (probably) trying to start an ARG of his own

I recovered and lost hope in him far so quickly. Is this simply the fate of all popular horror youtubers?
To become a cringey total sellout? Eventually all of our favorite obscure horror channels will surpass Nexpo and others in popularity and will also begin selling the new exclusive "Hunt-A-Killer SPECIAL ARG edition feat. Nexpo, Dad and MamaMax, includes Nord VPN-themed Raycon earbuds and a 1-day-long suscription to Raid: Shadow Legends with Reignbot as an exclusive DLC character"
