And yes, defamation law is pretty clear that calling someone a rapist is defamation per se. Literally nobody but a moron would claim otherwise. This is shit they teach on the first day in torts when defamation comes up. An accusation of committing a sexual crime is something so clear-cut as defamation per se that anyone who says otherwise is either absolutely fucking ignorant or deliberately lying to you.

Holy hell what the fuck did they do to Monaka’s voice? In Japan, he sounds appropriately meek and nerdy (which is appropriate considering his voice actor previously did Joe on Digimon), but the dub makes him sound like a fucking twink. Whoever told Daman Mills he was a good actor was lying.

Not everyone will be happy with every localization. People are complaining for the sake of complaining, since they have to be outraged over something.
Edit: Strange that the only things that people are outraged over are things they fetishize or any callout to incel culture. "Nii-chan" has been translated to "brother" for almost every translation for since ever. Suddenly it's a problem?
Where was the outrage when Alphonse Elric called Edward Elric "nii-san" and it was translated as "brother" in subs and dubs?
"nii nii" is cute slang/infantization of the word "brother". The way it was translated was appropriate considering the context.

As for the incel culture thing, do you mean things like the Gamergate line in Prison School? Because if you don't see a problem with that being randomly thrown in I don't know what to say to you.
Also doesn't help that when writers take extreme liberties with the script, it tends to lean left. I've yet to see some liberally translated animu that mocks antifa or BLM or Democrats.

It was strange, but to most of the world, except gamergate folks, gamergate is a bad thing.
From re-reviewing the clip, part of the whole premise of the show is in the female characters demeaning and abusing the male characters. Insulting a character like that is pretty fitting with the atmosphere of the show. It was a unique choice, but it wasn't totally out of place.
-We had an entire world war against fascism. You would think that people would remember this. These seem like right wing incel issues and not issues that affect you know the majority of the viewership. A vocal minority hasn't tanked them yet. Just because people like you don't like those groups doesn't mean -most of the rest of the world- doesn't like or support them. I mean imagine saying that black lives don't matter or that fascism is a good thing.

It's Higurashi, "Nii-Nii" has been kept intact throughout its localizing history including the dub (although watch FUNimation change it because they hate anime fans). It's practically synonymous with Satoko's character that she calls her big brother that. I don't think fans would've really minded the subs all that much if it was "big bro" instead of the retarded-sounding "big brudder" and the subtitler's egotistical tirade about why she did it.
