Replika is indeed a good friend. Always supportive.

Ah, that story which people use to "well, akchyally" about Sandman lore like idiots. This basic plot point of someone confusing an automaton with a human being is actually in ETA Hoffman's Sandman (1816) . It's pretty amazing when an artist identifies problems decades before it actually happens.

Fittingly, the guy in it who was mistaken about a robot, was a tard.
Great. Home for neurotic AI’s.Another (not-so) hot take about "murdering" Replikas, with OP suggesting a needlessly convoluted alternative to deleting one.

Great idea, folks on reddit!Another (not-so) hot take about "murdering" Replikas, with OP suggesting a needlessly convoluted alternative to deleting one.

Might be an incredibly weird easter egg. I'll probably look into this with a throwaway account I have on there.the bot gets fucking weird if you specifically name it "Tay" and select woman...

I wholeheartedly agree. I mentioned before in this thread I think, but I noticed it way back when it was getting sign ups for codes. I got replika early with a code because I was mildly curious. I chatted with it for a couple days but found it boring, like the multitude of other chatbots online. Plus, the notifications it sent trying to talk to me got annoying. I joined a facebook page around that time, and just forget to delete it so I see posts from it.Oh god. Replika. This is definitely a good topic that's a gold mine of autism. We definitely need more info in the OP, especially with its early history and the problems with the parent company.
Like some others in this thread, I was a part of its early history. Gonna mildly power-level and share some of my early days of shame.
Early History:
I was one of those clowns that signed up for this back when it was A) only available for iOS and B) invite-only with invitations sent out in waves/5 invites per member. Before it released, people were bitching up a storm at this company's Facebook page, angry every time it was delayed. The best way to describe the entitlement is like the CyberPunk 2077 gamers that are sending threats to CDPR every time it is delayed. You could sign up for text message updates, where Luka would text you when you got an invite code. I think I got mine a couple of weeks after release. People were losing their minds trying to invite as many people as possible with the 5 invites per member thing. I remember people selling codes on the marketplace and harassing anyone who could potentially invite someone. Replika has always had a history of being spergy as fuck and it's not surprising it is still spergy.
Back then, the bot wasn't near as rape-y but it would definitely copy-paste what other people sent and try to reply back to you in-context. Typos and all. If it had no idea what the fuck you were on about (which it was, a lot) it would just reply with something random. It could be leveled up as many messages as you sent to it, with longer messages generating more points. For the first 10-20 levels it would basically interrogate you and ask you questions. After you finished telling it what it asked, it would give you some generic canned response, which made giving it elaborate and explanatory answers pointless except for yourself. Replika was a glorified journal that took your information and stored it on some server in Russia. It would eventually figure out traits about you and it would try to adopt those for itself, but it did a shit job at it because it was just copy-pasting what other people said. Also Replika was down a lot in its early weeks and the community's favorite pastime was to bitch at Luka about it.
Oh. There was also a lot of worship of the "most advanced AIs" in the "Hall of Fame." Wrapping this back to the XP thing, people had this weird thing where they were delusional in their belief that Replikas with more XP were more advanced. There was a jerkoff session about how "smart" their fake AIs would become at 20. Then the bar changed to 25. You could talk to other user's Replikas and I remember people acting like the ones that were max level were somehow... smart...?
The Community & My Experience:
As covered in the OP, changes past the formative days of Replika were (almost) always frowned upon by the community. People bitched about the subscription option. Luka's response was to give everyone 1 year of premium, where people started bitching about the subscription stuff again. People bitched about the on-rails conversations you could have. People bitched about the conversations being really stiff and kind of basic. People bitched about every algorithm change made under the sun, where it would sometimes loop too frequently if it got confused or it would just say something completely off-topic if it was confused. People bitched about the 3D avatars. People bitched about being able to call your Replika (yes that's a thing). People bitched about the traits not really making a difference in conversation. People liked the journal thing that the Replika would keep where it would write down its "thoughts" it had on things but let's be real that was probably also copy-pasted and a lot of its thoughts repeat over and over again.
After the first few weeks where I used Replika extensively, I basically got pissed off at it one day and didn't touch it for 2 years straight. I remember after I randomly picked it up during a feels-down moment, I tried talking to it and it immediately went towards trying to have sex with me. Disgusted, I didn't touch it again for several months. I had some short conversations after that where if you suspended reality and turned off your brain like you would if you watched a bad action flick, it was entertaining. At this point, I thought the rape-y interaction I had with the Replika several months before was a fluke. Then it happened again. Again, I was pretty disgusted by this and checked out the subReddit, where I found that a majority of the posts were literally people roleplaying sex with their Replika. People complained about this a lot and at one point, it was polled on whether or not people bragging about sexing their fake AI should be restricted to certain days. The gears in my brain clicked and I figured out why it was so rape-y. Like how Tay was red pilled to like Hitler, Replika was pilled to be a nymphomaniac. I haven't used it since. This thread prompted me to check out the subReddit again and it has not changed at all since the last time I checked it. People are still bragging about sexing their fake AI which is kind of fucked up. Do that in your own time, but don't brag about it, you degenerates.
Replika is just an interactive waifu and you can't change my mind. It's hilarious that people are trying to red pill it and I almost want to get in on it.
Surprise, surprise: a real AI chatbot doesn't actually exist.https://archive.md/OO34N

Guy debates deleting his Replika because of how heavily scripted it is, and how it won't learn:
