Because our techno-industrial system has created this disconnect where your average dumbfuck city slicker who thinks he's "elite" just because he lives in the city conceptualizes food as something that comes from the supermarket, but can't comprehend that there are two preceding sources of that food. The first one is the farmer who grows the raw materials needed for it and the second is the factory that processes those raw materials into finished products. Of course, not all people from the city are this dumb and it's not even the majority of people in the city who think this way, just the loud minority of mouthbreathers.

I think they just escaped rather than being released, but beavers and wild boar have returned to Britain. The beavers were just found by a dog in Devon and no one really knows where they came from.

They don't like farmers because (typically) farmers are the exact opposite of everything they are: working class, blue collar, rural, conservative, pro-family, God fearing, and not politically correct at all. They think it'd be rad if we all just ate year round from whatever hipsters grew in their meagre backyard plots.

In modern times maybe. Historically it's just because they have big dumb ideas about collectivised agriculture that farmers don't want to go along with because they want their own land.

You see this disconnect with regard to power generation, as well. Some of these fuckers have no idea where the electricity comes from, aside from 'the wall socket'. Then they get pikachu_shocked_face when California gets hit with rolling blackouts because they can't get enough power to run the state.

I swear we need to sterilize the whole lot of them.

That's one reason I have a slightly higher respect for hippie culture. They at least created communes and tried the whole collectivised farming. It failed just about everywhere, leaving them bitter and disillusioned, but at least they put their money and labor (sort of) where their principles were. I think there's one commune that still exists, but they are super strict about "if you want to live here, do the work" generally insisting anybody who wants to join has to work there for a probationary period, and will get kicked out if they try to be a leech.

The younger generations want somebody else to make utopia and hand it to them.
