But the smug self-satisfaction of eating things I grew myself made the cherry tomatoes this year super duper worth it.
There are some things that are only good if you actually grow them yourself. Tomatoes are a perfect example because everything sold as a "tomato" in a store might as well just be wax fruit because it is absolutely inedible garbage. So I always grow tomatoes, and basil, preferably at least two or three varieties. Sweet, lemon, holy. Basil is the most spiritual of herbs.

I never knew tomatoes were something that's delicious all by itself until I grew my own.

My wife uses a lot of basil. If it's that much of a difference I'll definitely get started on that.

You know how you can breed traits into animals over time, so they're smaller, or bigger, or tougher, or more resistant to certain medical problems, or better at a specific role? You can do that with plants and alter them over time via development. The reason most tomatoes you get in supermarkets are flavorless is because they're bred to retain large amounts of water and stay fresh for a much longer period of time, whereas the ones you grow from a garden shop are designed to actually be edible but they won't last long on a shelf someplace. You can test it yourself with Vineripe Tomatoes; assuming you get one with some viable seeds, planting them will get you more of those store-brand flavor-free tomatoes with a shelf-life four times as long.

There's a surprising number of other foods that have similar traits.

I didn't measure it out, but I made the pasta.

I boiled the pasta in some homemade chicken stock w/ salt

While it boiled, I sauteed some mushrooms in olive oil with lots of garlic, salt and pepper.

When the pasta was done, I drained it, then added the olive oil w/ mushrooms over it and mixed it. Was really good.

Fun fact: this is a collaborative rap album by Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist called Alfredo which last week was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Album. The album of course is based on the classic Alfredo pasta – Fettuccine pasta with butter sauce and Parmesan cheese. It now begs the question:

Should more rappers in the future make pasta themed rap albums? Will it be successful for listeners to listen to it while eating more pasta?

Anyway, I’ve heard this album and personally, these were the best songs on here:

I’m also well aware that these songs barely contain any references on how to make Alfredo pasta.

I think you fucked up that last sentence, are you talking about holy basil? Cause that shit's good in tea. Also I don't mind the tomatos you buy as much, though I do agree growing them yourself is a hell of a lot better.

I think my sentence was fine. And yes, holy basil is definitely worth growing. It's hard to imagine a dish that couldn't be improved with a couple leaves of it. And you can't buy it in stores.

I think you can buy seeds online, but never really looked into it...guess I better do that now.
