Honestly I hope we get the currently-drafted reform. I mean, yes, it's a polished cowpat, and could certainly be better, but 'better than 230 at protecting free speech' is not as high a bar to make it over as it should be.

Besides, if you pay much attention to how regulations tend to get written, it's pretty much 'bunch of lolcows making scat porn.'

My personal thoughts are BBSes. The main problem with the internet is normies who get shocked and bring legislation.
Normies won't be able to use a text only environment let alone figure out the commands to actually access one. Neither will the old farts in government.
You can't ban something you don't even have enough technical knowledge to comprehend existing, let alone it actually doing so.

Might make a thread for this. Some places to go, some ideas.

Long-time lurker, registered after seeing this thread. It will be sad to see KF go. Where will I replenish my energy with maniacal laughter after a hard day of work?!

Parts of the internet will be absolute mayhem after a repeal, big bois get ever so bigger, small bois might get extinct.

That's the problem, there isn't really any viable alternative at the moment that is a forum and not a chan. It will take someone else nutting up and making one.

However: like many others, I doubt this ever gets signed into law. It would completely ruin a large number of far right wing outlets that the Republicans depend on. They know Trump is a retarded baby, and they will find something shiny to distract him with.

Sure would go on a hunger strike if it brought chocolate cake back. I think accelerationism might be the best bet, at least here in the US. It hasn't been enough time for all these sweeping authoritarian changes that are being made to be accepted by society. We have a strong civic tradition of liberty and freedom - nearly all of the people I have contact with IRL seem to have some inkling of a problem. They're starting to wake up (especially the generation that can recall a life pre 9/11 ) and too much too soon is the best way to motivate action, whether that is via legal means, or via other methods. Could you imagine in the pre 9/11 world the backlash of a bill containing all the provisions of the PATRIOT act, SOPA/PIPA and net neutrality in one bill? The reaction might even be so negative as to start an entire movement.

Our problem is apathy. Apathy is anaethema to democracy - our founding fathers clearly understood this and to combat this problem, framed our society and daily life of their time around the theme of civic duty, which have fallen by the wayside 200~ years later as life has changed along with technology. We are judged by a jury of our peers, but today we look for ways to avoid our duty. Voting is a right and all citizens are highly encouraged to cast their vote, yet voter turnout is low even with such a contentious campaign as 2020 was. The concept of states rights more directly impact citizens, (thus increasing engagement) but states rights are all but gone save for a few issues (dudeweedlmao and guns being the 2 biggest I can think of).

Who cares, wins. Moving forward, we need to somehow fix our societal apathy. And the best way to move forward sometimes is to step on the fucking gas. So if KF closes down, well twitter isn't going to allow us to call people NIGGERS, and the people's need to call NIGGERS NIGGERS in peace isn't going away anytime soon.

Pressure either makes diamonds or a dystopian shithole (which will cause more pressure and turn into a diamond eventually). It's cyclical, and we need the favorable part of the cycle before AI and technology shift the balance of power so as to slow or stop the cycle entirely...
