Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

While I agree that a full repeal with nothing to replace 230 would likely fuck this site over, I seriously doubt that's going to happen simply because this is objectively wrong.
A. No. Only the largest tech companies which could afford to handle these new lawsuits and an automated moderation system to keep their platforms squeaky clean will be able to survive in the US without Section 230. It would create a bar of entry for new websites as well.
97% of all corporate lawsuits are settled with no civil proceedings. This is because in the overwhelming majority of cases, it is far cheaper for companies to simply settle out of court rather than fighting lawsuits. Most of these lawsuits are for dumb shit, that the companies could have easily won if they went to court, but they chose not to. If the full repeal of section 230 does happen, and it does open up tech companies to large amounts of litigation, they will go out of business because they won't have a choice but to fight these lawsuits due to sheer volume. You'll see more lawsuits on sites like those than you will on sites like this not because of anything moderation or content related, but simply because every lawyer in the US will be filing lawsuits against them because they have a lot of shekels to hand out. Obviously, this is completely against the wills of the powers that be, Trump and associates included, so it is highly improbable that you'll actually see a full repeal, or really any repeal for that matter.

Like I really like the lowcow forums to read but I'm gonna miss the general atmosphere here. Its nice to just post on a general messageboard for random topics, not the hyper-focus reddit or facebook communities tied to real info. I wish we could just get rid of the lowcow stuff if it meant keeping the general vibe for the rest of the forums. I know its the unifying factor for this forum but I'm gonna miss the non-lowcow stuff more.

largely same. The lolcows are funny sometimes but more often than not there's nothing happening for months and people posting the same opinions about these lolcows over and over in slightly different words. I generally think a focus on non-lolcow topics could work theoretically. It still shouldn't be though, on principle.

I'm gonna miss this place.

stick to running an HO gauge trainset you fucking sperg
You don’t see the upside to this, really? Let me lay it out for you, then. Forums have been dying for years and years. Big Tech has successfully consolidated online discussion into a few gigantic, monopolistic platforms, like Facebook, Reddit, YouTube comments and so forth. The traffic rankings do not lie.

Do you think it’s healthy for free speech for the vast majority of the web’s users to be siloed on just a few sites with top-down control? With shadowbanning, blacklisted topics, quarantined boards, and all this other draconian net nanny bullshit?

What if there was an alternative?

Larry Sanger and anyone associated with Wikipedia Review and Everipedia should also hang themselves through a very elaborate combination of model trains.

I find it bitterly amusing that the Internet, which arguably contributed a large part of the success of his election, to be the very thing will be killing with this. All the memes and Pepe frogs - all the edgy kids yelling “based” and trying to get trump into office for the “meme” being subjected to the future of politically correct Internet under giant tech companies by trumps hand. So, did ya own the libs? Was it worth it? lol
