I don't think Russell ever cared about a woman's relationship status. We've seen him straight up tell women on instagram that he's better than their boyfriends and that they should leave them for him. He did seem to think it was important to give his song to Taylor before she got a new boyfriend, but that probably had more to do with him thinking that makes it harder for him to "woo" her. In the end, though, Russell's ego has him convinced he's the most desirable man alive, and that no woman can resist him, so a simple thing like a boyfriend is just another obstacle he thinks can be overcome easily.

He said that to Erika in fact. Of course, you know that if some poor woman did start dating him he'd go insane if she even talked to another guy.
