This is what the pop psychology babble is toxic. Here's my schizo theory since there aren't many contrarians here:
  • Faith was a rebound. She thought ER was the love of her life and didn't realize it was a booty call. She ran out in the middle night to be with her Prince Charming, but it was just some hick who wanted sex.
  • Faith gets knocked up so Ralph tries, as poorly as he might, to give it a go since he was traumatized by how his dad was to him.
  • Meets Pantsu. Thinks she's hotter, and well, Faith was just a booty call and now she's sick and pregnant. Trying to be what he thinks is 'a good father', might as try a threesome, would still be raising the kid and get sex with two girls. Very 'chad'.
  • Ralph probably doesn't think Pantsu is a pedo, so in his mind, he might think, let Faith have the dream she talked about with Marie, go to school, be a teacher. Since he's home because of what he does and Pantsu isn't going to get a normal job, comes up with the solution that they'll watch the baby so they don't have to pay for day care while Faith can live her dream.
  • Never believed she cut off contact with Halfway, or if she did, not for long. When Faith realizes she can't deal with this stuff, gets in touch with Halfwaycrook and drops and/or makes up the leaks based on real events, which would explain the inconsistencies. Still leery personally because it's not like Faith has never lied or exaggerated what's happening for her.
Summary - Faith was a rebound booty call, she thought it was love, Ralph tried in a shitty way to be a dad but also have as much sex as possible. Now we are in the revenge arc.
