She was hiding her eating from him the whole time-remember the pizza boxes he found in the closet? Bibi is not a feeder and definitely didn't want to care for a bedbound deathfat. He moved in with her too soon and got trapped financially and in other ways-sympathy for her health issues maybe. It took him a long time to extract himself, but fortunately, he did.

I wonder if he told her to be gone while he was back in Senegal, and instead of leaving, she decided to go on a diet and loose 100 lbs in those three weeks so when he came home she could prove she was worthy. She maybe sold the car to make food gathering harder for her and really believed she’d walk places to hurry weight loss along. Of course, his being gone freed her of whatever shame she still had in her and she went on an eating bender. He came home, she was still there and was actually going through with the surgery, so he gave it a few more months. But he's been done a long time, and it was mostly because of food.
Any family member who takes on Chantel is in a world of hurt, and I can't imagine anybody doing it, even grams. Giving her money is one thing, having her move in, take over your fridge and TV, have cats she won't clean up after, living with loud, crazy voices and the smell, and having a camera shoved in your face all day isn't healthy for anybody, especially an elderly woman. Chantel’s mother should protect her mother if Grams can't say no. . If Chins leaves Peetz, she better be prepared to live on her own because I don't think her family is blind to her destructiveness, and I don't think she'll be welcomed.
