And yet when you meet Americans they say they're Americans. They don't say they're Texans or New Yorkers. Well, maybe Texans might. They've got a common currency, and it has always been possible for people to get a U-Haul and move across the country to be able to work.Right. The situations dont compare. Europeans may not like each other but are willing to work together.
Euroskeptics have always said that the EU is screwed because 'there's no European demos'. There's been an American demos for centuries, as well as fiscal and monetary union, a common external tariff, an army, a navy, and a Federal government.
That makes me think the US should definitely try and keep together as a state even if there's a devolution of power from the Federal level to the state level.
Admittedly I've got my own selfish geopolitical reasons for that, namely that the US military is very useful to keep the Chinese and Russians at bay in Europe and Asia.
By far the best outcome in this is that the US still has a powerful Federal president elected in a way that all states have confidence in, with a nuclear briefcase to inspire FEAR in the hearts of the swine who run China and Russia.
