The whole "every game that is not Melee sucks" thing is overblown in my experience. Smash has many autistic sects and some hate melee. One of the biggest players in Melee, Mew2king, plays every single smash game and likes all of them even 64 and more then half of the "big 6" players of Melee play(ed) Ultimate and gave it a serious try. Most the problems with Ultimate relate to obnoxious input buffering and terrible netcode both of which are Nintendo's fault and isn't a "muh melee" or "muh wavedash" issue. The hardcore Smash 4 community would barely touch Melee and they migrated to Ultimate immediately because they don't want to play Melee, this includes retards like Salem who made an autistic word document of "years of research" to explain why Melee is not a smash game.

Nintendo has been schizo as hell with competitive smash, first they want to ban melee tournaments, then they decide to hire professional Japanese smash players to help make the AI be effective and host a big tournament by inviting a bunch of Melee and Smash 4 players, then they decide that competitive is gay and want to ban it again. Also why have balance patches for casually very minor things, like small frame data tweaks like the recent buff to Ness' neutral B, if you don't give a damn about competitive and just want it to just be a wacky party game? Nintendo does/did care about competitive around at least the Ultimate era and arguably even the Smash 4 era considering they'd rebalance characters all the time based on competitive results.

I think the pedo accusations is what killed this and despite my above tangent I don't blame Nintendo for wanting to just axe this, because being associated with pedos is just not a good look for anything. Especially considering an actual lawsuit might come up to reignite that drama. Before that though Nintendo was just doing Nintendo things and couldn't make up its damn mind.

Um...now Nintendo going scorched earth on the melee scene is one thing but holy shit I think they're taking things a bit too far. Nintendo wouldn't allow the finals of a splatoon 2 tournament to be streamed because the finalist registered their names as #FreeMelee. (Reminds me of #FreeHK)

They have targeted a dude who made Etika "Joycon Boyz" custom shells and iirc Nintendo sent a fucking cease and desist letter to him. The guy wasn't even making a profit off of his work as it went directly to charity. (lol wtf Nintendo)

Now I'm hearing that Gilvasunner (a videogame ost uploader like brawlbrstm) got even more of his Nintendo ost videos copyright striked.

Did something happen at Nintendo HQ? There's lots of shit going down from them and in a mere matter of days. The ceast and desist is probably the most petty I've seen. People make Nintendo fan merch all the fucking time but you target one dude?

I was waiting for this to happen ever since EVO blew up in people's faces.

Nintendo is all about having absolute control, that's why their hardware is always some galaxy brained bullshit that never pans out well due to the fact that they over engineer piracy protection to the point where they create more doorways than roadblocks. They don't have a good grasp on how western markets react so they're now going full retard and taking any and all possible elements out of the equation that they don't have full control of. Basically their arrogance is on display since the switch has a solid base now.

I'm just afraid that this is going to fuck up Monster Hunter Rise, since that requires heavy online playing. That's going to be a real test of the switch's already weak online infrastructure. If Nintendo decides to further lockdown shit we won't get crown measurement videos and charts.

To be fair regarding the second paragraph, the issue with the JoyCons is that not only was that old news as far back as September, the reason being the JoyCons was having trademarks and stuff and this was one of the issues the Etika JoyCon seller was having, and this news only brought up to light to try and cash in on the #FreeMelee drama.

Apparently those joycons were using Etika’s name without the permission of Etika’s family, so it’s not as cut and dry as Nintendo just being an asshole this time.

To be fair, I enjoyed games a lot more as a kid when everyone just seemed to play the game. (of course, I seemed to avoid Sega VS Nintendo arguments growing up)

In one Discord I'm in, Nintendo fans are hyped because, you guessed it, a new Smash Bros trailer dropped.

Nothing worth screen-capping, but they're claiming Dharkon represents toxic Nintendo fans, and him getting owned by Galeem is the ultimate middle finger to said toxic fans.

I don't speak fluent enough autism to know what any of that means.
