Adding to this, there was a recent write-up about the Bleach shipping drama (not a fan of the series but the summary is still a very fun read) and how big the fallout was after the final chapter sank a popular pairing. It linked to the wonderful imgur page for the Hall of Anal Devastation part 2 (part 1 ofc being the classic Naruto shipping drama) detailing all the cope and seethe.
Cue this guy in the comments section:
A guy saying "anal devastation" is a homophobic term. Hilarious. The people at r/hobbydrama have always been so-and-so as far as humour goes, they're very good at getting offended by the most casual of politically incorrect comments, but even they thought this guy was being retarded. But this is still the sort of crap you can find there. A lot of the write-ups are truly interesting, but the discussions always go to shit.
I've always wondered if most of the people there aren't just candidates, undergrads, or "social science" degree-holders who really didn't cut it in the field.
Browsing one of the few subreddits I still view from time to time, and I come across this.
What could be such a grand offense to Reddit's tranny safespace that this brave internet denizen had to make this statement?
You can't even insinuate that something that's supposed to look like an actual woman doesn't look like a woman, otherwise it's literally genocide. And of course that's top comment.

This is long and I wasn't quite sure where to post this as there isn't enough substance for it to be its own thread, but I remembered the Unus Annus archive subreddit spergout of November 2020 and this feels like the best thread to fit it into. There's crossover with Tumblr and YouTube subculture here and this is a definite deviation from the neckbeard athiest, racist, and 'cuck beta male'-esque characters that are typical of reddit.
If you're unfamiliar, Unus Annus was a channel made in November 2019 by Mark Fischbach / Markiplier and Ethan Nestor / CrankGameplays, who played the persona of characters "Unus" and "Annus". The channel was set to be deleted in 1 year from the uploading of their first video, and each daily video was about trying something new because 'death is inevitable' and 'after someone is gone you'll only live with their memories' or something like that. They didn't want anyone to reupload their videos. Fanart, memes, music, clips were all fine to stay up, just don't reupload videos unedited. This was an interesting concept for a channel, even if some people didn't quite agree with it.
The whole thing was built on FOMO culture. Mark and Ethan absolutely got rich off of monthly overpriced limited edition Unus Annus merch drops while breeding fans who grew smug off of the fact that we're real fans who watched Unus Annus while you fake fans didn't. A culture based on elitism and 'I'm better than you' that comes into play here.
If you're unfamiliar with Markiplier, he makes let's play videos. He's also every Tumblr white girl's dream. His fans... love to draw porn of him, love to ship him with another YouTube friend of his [JackSepticEye, 'Septiplier'] even after they've both said they're uncomfortable with it, love to ship him with his own alternate YouTube personas... They're the same sort of people who got wet over Wheatley from Portal 2 and the Onceler. His fans are also rabid and will do anything to defend the honor of their 'Markimoo' as they call him.
And fans absolutely went rabid at the mere thought that ANYONE might so much as download their precious videos that their daddy Markimoo said people couldn't download!! As such, r/UnusAnnusTraitors was born, and it is now unfortunately private with no archives that I can find, but the subreddit's entire existence was about 'ratting out' people who reuploaded videos or even admitted to downloading these videos.
How dare anyone download a video of Markiplier drinking pee for their own amusement. Traitors! Fake fans!
/r/UnusAnnusArchival was formed in August 2020 for just that. Archiving Unus Annus videos. It wasn't intended for fanart from what I can tell, just making sure that official content was saved.
Archiving harmed nobody, and besides; people had legitimate reasons to want to save the videos. They're on the spectrum or struggle with depression and find comfort in the videos, they found out about the channel too late and couldn't watch all of them in time, they missed episodes or the finale livestream due to work or wi-fi issues or otherwise having actual real world priorities, or just want to save a funny video.
Either way, people were going to download these videos whether the stannies liked it or not.
The subreddit was relatively quiet until November 2020, the final days before Unus Annus' channel was deleted, along with their official subreddit, r/UnusAnnus. Yes, despite Mark and Ethan wanting to keep the community alive, they deleted their community's main gathering place. With the deletion of the subreddit, when one looked up "UnusAnnus" on reddit, r/UnusAnnusArchival showed up as the top result. The "true fans" lost it. How dare anyone disrespect the wishes of their overlord Markimoo!
The sub began being flooded with the "true fans" who mass downvoted all archival-related posts, and looking through controversial all time shows the pleas of the Unus Annus stannies
They started calling people 'fake fans' and themselves 'true fans', equating the deaths of the characters to the deaths of real people and accusing people of "BREAKING A DYING MAN'S WISHES!!!", getting angry over archive.org's existence, quoting Supernatural at the archivers, etc. Any defenses of archiving were met with "well Markiplier said he doesn't want people reuploading!" even though many of these people aren't reuploading and are merely downloading. You know, downloading videos, a feature that is natively built into YouTube with YouTube Premium.
No matter what your defense was, you were a disrespectful prick according to Markiplier fans and that was that.
These comments are spread across dozens of posts that I don't have the time archiving so I've gone through the controversial posts of all time and plucked out some notable comments. Most of these comments are under posts along the lines of "DON'T ARCHIVE UNUS ANNUS YOU'RE A FAKE FAN IF YOU DO!! DELETE THIS!!!"
Just stay up past your bedtime to watch Unus Annus!! What? You're a healthcare worker working 16 hour shifts in the middle of a pandemic? EXCUSES EXCUSES YOU'RE BEING UNFAIR!!!! SUCKS TO SUCK!!
remember, if you want to archive it due to your mental struggles then :/ um :/ you dont have an '''excuse''' :/ youre being SUCH a huge jerk :// and are EXTREMELY selfish because you... want to share with other community members and preserve history..?
WHY WOULD MARK AND ETHAN CONSIDER PEOPLE LIKE YOU? WE DON'T WANT YOU IN THIS FANDOM!!! SELFISH!! SELFISH!! STOP USING LAME EXCUSES YOU TRAITOROUS FAKE FAN
response to one of the angry stans
and a bonus response to one of the stans in this thread
TAKE THIS SUBREDDIT OFF THE INTERNET!!
Some users suggested making r/UnusAnnusArchival a fanart subreddit instead of just making their own subreddit for it.
No new subreddit was made.
Currently, r/UnusAnnusArchival is fairly quiet and filled with fanart posts, r/UnusAnnusTraitors is still private, and in the distance once can hear a 14 year old sobbing because someone she never met decided to cozy up and watch a download of Markiplier's pee drinking video.

Neopets decided to uncensor gay words and a bunch of adult children are screeching the trans rights meme. Entire incident isnt really noteworthy enough to merit a write up imo but there’s sweet sweet circlejerk karma to be had!! Can’t miss out!
For anyone unfamiliar with Neopets I would like to emphasise how stuck in the past the site is. Many pages are straight up broken because they haven’t been updated since 2008, and there are JPEGs everywhere. They didn’t have a mobile interface until around a year ago. You can get banned for saying lmao on the forums. The entire place is a barely functioning shithole powered solely by the nostalgia of adults that played it as kids.
I don’t particularly care if gay is censored or not because it’s a baby game website. Who gives a shit? I just find it a little funny that everyone’s acting like being able to call someone a queer is a breakthrough when half of the site is barely functioning Absolute nothingburger of a drama.
The comments of the thread are also going on about some discourse on how being straight and having a neopet with a gay name is problematic or something. It’s all so tiresome.png get a hobby outside of babygames.
For actually funny Neopets drama, the rude name apocalypse of 2015 is where it’s at. I’m sure we had a thread on here for it at the time.

So is there a working archive of the channel or what? I dont really care about the channel but it would be great to have one if it makes people seethe. Anyhow if they uploaded all of these videos for free then it doesnt make any sense for people not to download. Its not like unus or whoever is a real person lol.
Why is Reddit so hard to enjoy now? It has a lot of users and activity, but the posters all seem to echo the same leftist sentiments. Is it because the banned so many subs for "hate speech"? I don't need all viewpoints to be the same, but it's hard to find posts to the right of Stalin and Marx there. It makes it seem like the world is nothing but elitist leftists.

Virtually everyone to the left of Marx has been banned from reddit. Most notably all "chan culture" communities have been banned which makes the site kinda weird since the original conception was 4chan lite and now it's nothing like that.

That link wasn't spared either, the comments there are sprinkled with whining fangirls.
Memento mori = "remember death" which was the catchphrase of Unus Annus - naming yourself that to yell at people is just fanboyism at its finest
I also did more light digging and found more Unus Annus reddit shit.
r/DataHoarders, a subreddit for general archival of digital data, wasn't safe either.
On a post of someone sharing the archive.org link that I shared above
I also checked under some threads in r/UnusAnnusArchival that had to do with 'hey I have an archive'
linked vid
I did a quick Google of 'UnusAnnusTraitors' and found these two images from the r/UnusAnnusTraitors subreddit - one being from a Markimoo and Ethan stan, and the other mocking the people who posted in the sub.
