I am displeased to introduce Craig Thompson, a gaming Youtuber who goes by the name "Mini Ladd."
Mr. Thompson is a Youtuber and livestreamer focusing primarily on gaming content. What has our boy done to deserve your attention?
Like so many Youtubers before him, Craig was unable to suppress his need to exchange explicit messages with underage fans. Shocking, I know.
Craig was mentioned earlier in the year, in this post. He was engaged in what seems to be some pretty mundane Youtube drama before this. Notably, The Sunday Times listed him as 3rd on a list of the 100 top UK influencers (after PewDiePie and KSI).
Earlier in 2020, allegations came out regarding "inappropriate" messages that Craig had been exchanging with two American fans (16 and 17 years old):
Archive of the First Allegation (16 years old) - The author indicates that his behavior regarding inappropriate contact with minors was a common theme with Craig. After mentioning that his penis was small, Craig defended his honor by sending this girl a photograph of his "bulge" - he's a true role model.
Archive of the Second Allegation (17 years old) - This girl began to follow him at 16, and began to converse with him. When she was 17, "the subject of virginity came up" and Craig asked her if she was a virgin. The girl admitted that she was, and they agreed that it would be appropriate for him to take her virginity. She claims that "things escalated from there" - the details are lost to Snapchat autodeletes and the foggy memory of an underage girl.
Craig faced some immediate backlash. Most notably, he lost a sponsorship arrangement with the City of Derry RFC (Rugby Club). (Archive) He also moved from LA back to the UK.
Others came forward, corroborating the claims and confirming that this was a trend. (Archive)
For a while, it seemed like things were tense for Craig and his fanbase, but not too much happened, considering what he did. This week, though, he posted an apology video:
Youtube Link - "My Apology "
This disturbing, dismissive apology video goes into detail regarding how he, an adult man, relied on underage girls for emotional support. His "suicide attempt" and depression are blamed. As we know, a desire to send lewd photographs to 16 year old girls is associated with depression. Craig repeatedly suggests that this is a valid defense, claiming "The reason I did this was because I did try to take my life at the start of 2017."
Now that he has made his statement, there is blood in the water, and articles are coming out about the "drama"
Considering the size of the Youtuber and the irrefutable nature of his misconduct, it is probably worth watching what happens in the coming days and weeks.
