Why are so many people unironically defending Apollo Legend over this? Dude's been a scummy asshat and stirring up drama for years, honestly I'm surprised he didn't have a thread on the Farms.

Here's a quick rundown:

• His "Oceanside" scam
  
  Dude planned to organize a poor man's AGDQ called Oceanside after making a shitty video about GDQ being shady (he didn't even really call out any SJW shit). Then he didn't tell anybody about progress for months after announcing it having all the big runners. He cancelled the thing two fucking weeks in advance. Financing was done using crowdfunding (this will be a theme) which ended up receiving $20,000 of which (to my knowledge) $19,500 were then suddenly claimed to have been his own money all along. He did offer some refunds, but I've heard he just went ahead and reused some of the funds for the Billy Mitchell case as well.
  Shit was shady as fuck even if you give him the benefit of the doubt here.

  Before you call the SWJ boogeyman, read Goose's own thread, guy's been a cow long even before that shit went down. Goose basically said some extremely far-right shit (all in the thread), acknowledging it as dumb shit and apologising for it. However, the content isn't even really why Apollo Legend got a shitstorm for.
  The guy made a video of the situation where he simply did not even mention the whole Discord leak. You have to keep in mind that he probably had the largest speedrunning channel on Youtube at the time, with videos regularly hitting several million views - people got their information from him. He was clearly trying to manipulate public perception in favor for Goose here, and in an incompetent way to boot.
  
  
• The DarkViper beef - honestly no idea about that one, I've been out of the community during that time and don't care too much about DarkViper. It's discussed in EZScape's video, as far as I understand it Apollo started shit and took a L from it (despite seemingly being correct in the end).
  
  
• Billy Mitchell lawsuit and scam
  
  Long story that goes way beyond this situation.
  In short: Apollo messed with Billy Mitchell (King of Kong) through clickbaiting a bunch of videos and openly calling him a cheater at Pacman and Donkey Kong (the guy is somewhat well-known for his arcade gaming records). He then got sued over it along TwinGalaxies.com (basically the authority on arcade game records), because Billy Mitchell tends to do that. Apollo then worked with TwinGalaxies on a counter case, for which he opened a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign. which reached again $20,000.
  He explicitly promised refunds in case the lawsuit does not happen, and guess what: it did not, Apollo got kind of fucked over by his incompetent lawyer and TwinGalaxies, and had to settle the matter out of court with Mitchell (including taking down all videos).
  
  Refunds still did not happen for months and Apollo said nothing on the matter. This is where EZScape comes in, who posted a video to his secondary Youtube channel (with 60k subs compared to his main channel with 300k) on the situation and also collectively calling out Apollo for all the scummy shit he did over the years. After a few months, refunds finally happened and EZScape set the video to unlisted, while it still only peaked at about 300k views (Apollo's own call-out videos used to get millions of views).
  
  
• A lot of other small shit and rumours I've picked up and vaguely remember, such as not asking for permission to use their clips (which practically costs the streamer views and thus money if they're on Youtube), supposedly advertising some scummy streaming service, using and wasting the Oceanside / lawsuit funds for Cryptocurrency investments, and acting scummy in regards to many of his videos (e.g. the AGDQ video mentioned above was full of bullshit).
  He's also barely reachable and hasn't been on social media or in contact with anyone for half a year, and only sporadically before that. People who claim he was "backstabbed" tend to forget that for some reason, I mean it's literally one of the motivations that probably led to EZScapes video.
  
  
• Most importantly though: Apollo Legend got famous primarily by making videos calling out others on shitty practices or cheating. He's never been called out publicly like that before DarkViper and EZScape made their videos. Don't fucking mess with people if you can't handle anything.

Dude's been comically incompetent with business matters at best and straight-out has been scamming people for ~$40k at worst. There's really no reason to feel particularly sorry for him in this situation.

I was seriously surprised when his death was confirmed, because to me this looked like another scam considering the ridiculous GoFundMe and no mention of Billy Mitchell in his suicide note (which doesn't make sense to me unless he wants to avoid any legal trouble - guy is literally responsible for his mom having $10k of debt now). I would still not be surprised if he turned up alive and was simply taking some sick "revenge" on people he felt wronged him.

Some of his old content being good years ago doesn't make the fucker a decent human being. The community has moved on for years, his content is shit compared to what Karl Jobst, ironically EZScape, Lowest Percent, Summoning Salt, or even Goose have been putting out recently. Go watch that if that's your only concern here.

I seriously have no sympathy for Apollo Legend due to this, in fact I hope he didn't go out quietly for acting like an absolute attention-grabbing autistic faggot while not even calling out Mitchell to fire up the shitstorm.

Youtube cycles what makes money over time. We went from skeptics to anti-SJW to drama. These days all the really big money and even little money is reporting on drama and shit stirring. Youtube has banned everything else and the grifters need to keep the grift going. He was a speedrunning content creator, one of the first. Started out with speed runner cringe compilations and other clickbaity stuff, then hit it big with an anti-GDQ video. After that, he tried to set himself up as the "Keemstar of speed running", which is kinda a cow-worthy sort of goal, but whatever. Oh yeah, there was also an incident where he went into public cosplaying as Billy Mitchell (and even getting a photo op with the man), while in the midst of his war with Mitchell.

The Mitchell thing is a whole thing unto itself, but in short: Apollo had some success with a video highlighting 80's "pro gamer" Todd Rogers' cheating. He didn't discover or prove it, but he gave it a lot more profile. Riding off of that, he later did the same with Donkey Kong "legend" Billy Mitchell, making several videos on his cheating and getting probably a bit overly invested in the whole thing (travelling to places where Mitchell was, for instance). Later, Mitchell would sue Apollo for defamation, a case that would eventually end with Apollo settling out of court, deleting the Mitchell-related videos and transferring the ownership to Mitchell.

Eventually, Apollo quit YouTube a few months back, citing depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and other general mental/physical health problems. Presumably, those feelings didn't go away, based off of what happened.

Overall...I'd say he was a bit borderline. He was kinda a drama magnet, ran a couple of borderline grifts, and he went a little too far IMO on the Mitchell thing. But his content was generally good, and he wasn't really the type to talk about his personal politics or his (apparently long-term) health problems in public, at least until his suicide note/video. Probably the biggest saving grace he had going against the lolcow status is that he invariably targeted people who were markedly more cow-like than him, so he generally looked decent by comparison.

It started when I hit puberty and my curvature rapidly progressed to the point of needing immediate medical surgury involving going under anesthetic and getting a cobalt and titanium rod in my back. Surgeon said my lungs wouldve collapsed if I didn't have procedure done in time. I've always been on the thinner side, and never been overweight and I deal with a lot of pain on the daily from my literal question mark spine, which makes my ribcage pop out on one side so I can't lie on my back without my ribs digging into the ground and makes doing exercises like a bench press impossible.

It's definitely a spectrum, and some people have curves in the lower back, some the upper back, sometimes its a curve + the spine twists, all kinds of fucked up and nothing to do with being overweight or having bad posture. Having scoliosis will make it far harder to have good posture though, I feel a lot of pain and discomfort just raising my arms straight up in the air with no weights let alone trying to add on dumbells. Its not a soreness like the muscles in my legs feel after a good run, but a sharp painful pinching.

tl;dr - nothing "causes" scoliosis, it's just shitty genes, girls are also 5 times more likely than men for some reason to get scoliosis and people who have scoliosis have a 50% chance of passing it onto their children, so knowing that I'd never choose to have kids and put them through this hell.

That's not what happened.

People had been skeptical of Billy Mitchell's purported record setting Donkey Kong scores for a long time. His sketchy videotaped performance was featured in the The King of Kong documentary, which came out in 2007. It wasn't until 2018 that definitive proof that he had played on an emulator was uncovered. (There are a few frames which draw differently on MAME) A dispute was submitted to Twin Galaxies and following a lengthy, public investigation, they removed all of his scores.

Apollo Legend made several videos about the evidence that was presented and they received millions of views. Billy Mitchell sued him, Twin Galaxies, the guy on the donkeykongforum who figured out that Billy's videotaped game play was done on MAME, and most recently YouTuber Karl Jobst. Guinness World Records was probably threatened with litigation as well given that they reinstated his scores and issued a retraction. Billy Mitchell is just a litigious cheater. Apollo Legend "messing" with Billy amounts to him going to see Billy at one of his public appearances while comically dressed as Billy.

After getting sued, Apollo had the idea of countersuing Billy for defamation and was told it would cost $10,000 at most. He opened a GoFundMe and started raising funds. Within a day or two, he got a second opinion from Twin Galaxies' lawyer, who told him he had gotten bad advice. Apollo cancelled the GoFundMe and said he would issue refunds. That didn't happen for months, and Apollo went silent during this time, but the donors were eventually refunded.

Apollo didn't get fucked over by anyone except Billy. Settling was probably in his best intrest in all honesty considering Twin Galaxies lost their anti-slapp motion to dismiss. The cost to Twin Galaxies to defend against Billy's lawsuit is massive. They requested that Billy post a bond of $80,000 just to pay for some depositions. Their legal fees could be upwards of a quarter million dollars or more. All because they said Billy's gameplay was not from an arcade cabinet.

Apollo namedropping Ezscape and Darkviper was shrewd on his part since he clearly wanted revenge against them for shittalking him and knew they'd get intense backlash for literally driving someone to suicide. Ezscape especially since he's routinely come out as anti suicide in videos in the past.

This might cause both individuals to get hounded for years because of it and it'll be interesting to see how they react to people bringing it up in the future.

This may also hurt Billy Mitchell's reputation long term more in communities he was once really popular in. Like I don't see any documentaries about old Atari games ever featuring him again after he bullied a kid into killing himself.
