It's also good to remember that most ancient marriages were not about love or even sexual desire, but about wealth, sharing labor, safety of union and having kids. This is why most marriages were not negotiated by the couple alone, but by the families as unit. Sure love marriage was seen as good thing, all cultures had stories about love and its wonders, but ultimately love doesn't bring food, land, animals or other material goods and without those there is significant possibility that you will die, starve or otherwise end up suffering. So most marriages were fairly practical, how the couple felt about each other being just one factor among others. Sure if you can get the perfect couple go for it but if not okey marriage is better no safety net for future. Generally as long as the couple could get along well enough, it was good enough and you probably will grow found of someone you share you life and bed with anyway. So someone being gay probably wasn't seen as an much of an issue when everyone knows that marriage and love aren't the same thing. As long as he can perform to get the next generation, who cares if the husband has preference towards the dick.

I've done quite a lot of (layman) research into homosexuality in historical times, particularly Georgian and Victorian era England, and you're right in part that a man's market value as a husband was not necessarily irreparably damaged by rumors of him being a "sodomite" (or an invert, as the Victorians said) but that was assuming he didn't do anything that would invite public scrutiny. These societies were notoriously two-faced; you were expected to present a chaste, pious front for public affairs but in private especially the higher classes would tolerate a surprising amount of deviancy.

For example, if two aristocrat youths were caught having an affair, their fathers would typically end it by separating them, often by sending by sending one of them to military academy or to receive "tutelage" by a relative far away. It was frowned upon, sure, but your life wasn't over, like some of today's LGBT activists like to say.

That is to say, women did not have this luxury. The idea of a woman having sexual agency independently from man was an incredibly scary thought to these people, and even the smallest hint of "loose behavior" could forever ruin a woman's reputation and her chances of scoring a good match on the marriage market. There wasn't even a word for a female homosexual prior to the first half of the 20th century. The only term was "whore". An oversexed woman who pursued other women for sex was surely to do it with men too and could not be trusted. Being outed as a cuckold in these times was in many ways worse than being outed as an invert.

You can just start self-medicating with estrogen and doctors are supposed to give you an actual prescription for it for purposes of harm reduction. According to all the guidelines I've seen. Somehow it does not seem like troons have figured this out yet.

Personally I’m meh about Izzard. There are quite a few reasons why MTFs get more attention than FTMs despite the fact that they are the most part, equally as perverted and insane as MTFs. Mains reasons being that, 1. MTFs tend to be more visually grotesque and pass less than FTMs do, making it easier to make fun of. 2. MTFs are more willing to broadcast their delusions and perverted nature. But most this can just summed-up as "men tend to be more vocal than women".

I may be wrong, but I think Izzard actually has some mutation regarding lactic acid production that allows him to just run for fucking ages much easier than normal people. He does a load of charity work, marathons, etc.
