I do want to take some issue here - unemployment is a trash statistic, never use it. Unemployment only measures people who do not have work who are looking for work; if someone gives up on work, they are not counted by it.

Now, the useful one is labor force participation rate. This is all working-age people with jobs. Some folks you would expect not to be in there - early retirees, invalids, students. But then there's also your homeless, your drifters, your dole bludgers, and so-forth, people who just don't want to or don't have the hope to work. The US's labor force non-participation rate is shockingly high, and has been for a while - well, well, well before covid.

This is only partially true. Trump did next to nothing with his term in office, other than tell people he'll bring jobs back, keep jobs in the US and cut off scab labor (none of which he actually fulfilled)
Most of the radicalization of the US came Trump merely existing as president and the media doing everything they could to convince people that he was literally worse than Hitler. Trump couldn't feed fish with the PM of Japan without the footage being modified to create some hit piece.
The result of this was large swarths of the country viewing Trump as literally Hitler and his fanbase as literal nazis. For Trump's core, which was middle white america on the brink of tipping into poverty, this did nothing but push them farther right.
Left wing publications have daily, if not hourly, hit pieces about how working class whites are literal nazi demons destroying the country, should not be allowed to be heard at all and should be cast aside.
If you objectively look at Trump, all he did was be rude for 4 years while the media completely demonized his base.
