She always uses like 10 rambling sentences to say something that could've been whittled down to one or two. View attachment 1829418
The thing that’s so interesting to me about this strategy (and I see it used a lot) is that it’s basically co-opting the language used by anti-racism activists in order to make the same point but without any kind of similar foundation. Race is an immutable characteristic; fatness is not.
What I mean is, “diet culture” here can be seen as analogous to “racism” broadly understood, while “anti-fatness” could be analogous to “anti-blackness” which is a very specific form of racism with a defined historical and cultural context, especially in the US.
Now, racism hurts everybody. That’s shitty stuff and you shouldn’t participate unless you want your ass beat. Victims of racism should be able to complain, right? Commiserate with one another? Seek community and public support? One would hope. Same for victims of that very specific form of racism, anti-blackness; obviously they’re included. The distinction matters for other reasons.
Here’s the difference though: when someone does a racism to a different group, black people aren’t out here saying “that’s not racism because it didn’t happen to one of us.” Conversely, even though “diet culture” harms everyone (skinny bitches and landwhales alike), this fat cunt is out here arguing that everyone else needs to be silent because the only true&honest suffering happens past 200 pounds? Because “anti-fatness” is the scourge of the modern age?
Girl, no. Fat people, like black people, have always existed. But black people can’t wake up tomorrow and decide their new year’s resolution is to stop being so black.
