I agree; but the GOP can not allow Trump to control things, and even at the cost of their base, have to see him ruined. There is something larger at stake here. They let the Fox into the Hen House and they are going to lose some hens. But they either write off their base for 8 years or write it off for a generation. They have choices. Populists and dictators always do well with drumming up support because they ignite emotive responses - but they always end up doing the same damage over short and long term to a country. The GOP will not allow it, regardless of whether it happens to align with the Dems or not. There are principles at stake that are very important to uphold if the USA wants to still remain a superpower.
