trying to donate 500$ a month is lunacy. doesn't it take a while to actually make a profit when one begins a business? she's promising money she doesn't and willn't have. she's trying to sprint forward and skip crucial steps altogether.

People that start a business from scratch don't always plan and that's their biggest downfall because they don't realize they'll lack the extra money early on to afford luxuries such as $500 a month in donations. I believe this is one reason why brand new businesses are expected to draw up business plans and someone taking over an established business is still encouraged to have one.

The other part of planning is tax considerations, which I think someone touched on in a recent post. If what I read is right that Colorado has a 4.63% individual tax rate, Rabbie would have to budget a minimum of 30% for taxes on her net profits as follows:

• 15.3% for both halves of the Social Security and Medicare taxes (sometimes called "FICA" by older people). This wouldn't be due if net profits are less than $433 because of how self-employment tax is calculated.
• 10% for the lowest federal income tax bracket. This would increase for anyone having additional income that would move them into a higher bracket.
• 4.63% for Colorado income tax.

If Rabbie somehow manages to make a profit, one can be pretty confident they haven't planned for these taxes and won't have the money on hand to pay any taxes due on her business sales. This doesn't even include sales taxes when appropriate -- a separate mess in itself now that every state has its own rules for sales made by out of state businesses.

Although business classes aren't an absolute requirement to be a successful business owner, one still needs to know basic marketing and management concepts. I'm not sure if it's part of a national body, but my state has an entrepreneur's network with someone who speaks once a week on local radio about the network and the resources it has available to help aspiring business owners get off to the best possible start.

However, we already know Rabbie's pride and ego preclude them from seeking that kind help and assistance from people who know what works and what doesn't.
