Honestly I always assumed freedom of speech would always be one of the core values that defined us and seeing it not only come under threat but becoming controversial is insane to me. How did we get to the point where people cheer dystopian corporations wielding powers we don't afford our own government as long as they screw the other side?

Serious answer? Corrupt people got into power and realized they needed to change things in their favor using scapegoat after scapegoat. Demonize the pillars of what keeps people free and the ensuing chaos will leave it hard for anyone to actually parse who is for or against what they believe. Sooner or later they shut off their brain and drink the kool-aid of whoever promises to sustain their most basic interests. And once you've reached that point, everyone in power is almost certainly corrupt.

It's also why during these times of strife the idea of an authoritarian regime becomes so much more enticing. That absolute power would give someone the means to banish that which people have been led to demonize. I mean, look at the left and right during all this. Each wants a different form of it.

It's really demoralizing shit and I'm done with politics.

Had a thought today. The heavy-handed approach by Big Tech towards those they don't agree with is a good thing. They have shown themselves right off, up front, as enemies of the American people.

Fully expect some smart people/smart governments overseas setting up server farms and providing cloud services to anyone who can pay. A no-brainer. If you use emails out of foreign countries, these providers could set up cloud services. Would be surprised if Russia and China weren't working on such projects right now. Can easily see setting up server farms just about anywhere. There are a number of countries who will gladly cooperate in setting up the server farm as long as there's money in it for them. Not rocket science - get the building, outfit the building with top-notch HVAC, bring in the equipment, set up generators, set up comm links. Doesn't take that many people to run the place.

Some will say that Americans who use such services aren't patriotic. Please. To Big Tech, dissent is patriotic only when they agree with the dissenter. Otherwise, Big Tech wants you gone. These foreign services/governments will be able to cover themselves by stating they are just helping Americans express their First Amendment rights, since American companies are trying so hard to shut Americans up. Russia and China don't need to make money on their cloud services, they will "make their money" by making US Big Tech look like a bunch of fools, which they are already.
