C'mon Joe, do a Tiananmen.I still think the inauguration is going to be a bloodbath. Only eight days lads!
It´s a matter of timing, I think. Biden is signaling to slow down the process asking for his nominees to be approved first but, if the process starts in a week or two, the zeitgeist is to impeach. GOP leadership already showed they don´t give a fuck about short term political gains like the two senate seats in GA by blocking the 2k nigga checks - many turncoats can just become lobbyist later if they are not elected anyways.House will impeach, but the senate is an open question. Senate's first session will be the 19th, so unless they vote it down immediately on that day, it'll get heard by the new senate with Trump having already left office. Their judgment then will not be on whether or not to remove Trump from office, but simply whether to (for the first time in history) put the black mark on him and bar him from holding office again.
I think that's possible, just not probable. With all 50 dems on board, they need, what, 16? 17? republicans for the 2/3rds number. Mitch could go scorched earth, and there have been a few of the senators in swing states who have already called on Trump to resign.
ill say this, i don't agree with the man on a lot, especially endorsing hillary and biden.Fair enough, but the assertion that Bernie isn't far left despite being a hypocritical socialist is pretty dumb.
Yes and no, hanging on specifics and wording. If he isn't in office, you can't have him removed. But the removal is a separate item from the impeachment trial itself.Don't believe you can impeach someone who isn't in office.
Heh. Yeah I think the summer of 2020 has made me even more of a bitter and twisted soul than I had been. Vitriol from it bleeds over into everything. You must be confused, the George Floyd thread is that way -->

The wording in article II section IV is: "The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
Removal is predicated on conviction of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors - the question is whether you need to be able to be removed for the trial to occur. And that is an open question - can the judgment can even apply to someone who is not a civil officer? That probably goes to the SCOTUS for interpretation.
I would personally expect that yes, the senate can try someone who is not at-present a sitting officer, so long as the indictment was started while the individual was.
I'm hoping Trump conceding will calm down the nutters, but probably not. I feel bad for anyone who has to work in DC that day.I still think the inauguration is going to be a bloodbath. Only eight days lads!
Nixon also could not run for a third term, so none of the powers vested in impeachment judgments would matter. Barring Trump from running in 2024 is a consequence of his being convicted.Yeah but the Nixon impeachment was dropped as Moot when he resigned and the Senate never took it up. Not entirely comfortable with the idea of retroactively impeaching Presidents. Next thing we know they will be putting Thomas Jefferson on trial for having sex with his house slave. You know they would. There is no limits to clown world and that slippery slope people were opining about in 2010 has become a greased cliff face.
Security is going to be insane after this blunder, so only the suicidal would show up in any sort of force.I'm hoping Trump conceding will calm down the nutters, but probably not. I feel bad for anyone who has to work in DC that day.
I genuinely think this goes beyond Trump. The middle class is dead, there's a BLM riot every three months, tech companies have complete control over our freedom of speech, illegal immigrants get more luxuries than taxpayers and anyone who complains about the state of the country is branded a racist. I think Trump was a symptom of this anger, not the cause.I'm hoping Trump conceding will calm down the nutters, but probably not. I feel bad for anyone who has to work in DC that day.
I think most people know that this indeed goes beyond Trump, even if they worship him. I think people realized that as bad as Trump is since he's just a blowhard, he's still not as bad as the alternative. Since Trump sought his base in people who have no voice, they followed him and became his cult following. QAnon bullshit gained influence based on the idea that Trump was "being held down by the deep state" (rather than that Trump was too lazy to tackle the "deep state"). People know that something very wrong is going on and know Washington is to blame.I genuinely think this goes beyond Trump. AMLO was kind of cool though and I bet Cuahtemoc Cardenas back in the day had that appeal too. Read up on the PRI, formed out of the Mexican Revolution, and how they formed a one party state and how they suppressed dissent on both sides to see what will happen here since we're going for full banana republic/CCP sort of state. At this point I'd rather live un Mexico. At least the government is transparent about how incompetent they are, and how little it cares about it's people. I can pay a local cartel a fraction of what I pay in taxes just to live on a beach, drink tequila, Modelo's, and eat rice, beans and grilled chicken all day. I just want to be left alone.
Consulting with her legal team about what happens if/when the stuff on her laptop goes public.Pelosi says Choke on it Donald
On a sidenote, Nancy Pelosi is missing from the House for the second day in a row. What is she doing?
