General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

"Everything I Don't Like Is Actually Chinese/Korean" is a tale as old as time among the terminally-online segment of Japanese society, so I'd put this in the schizo bucket. The rest is interesting though and it makes me wonder how much scummy shit is ignored by westoids because we either can't recognize it or because we simply don't believe that Japs can be duplicitous.

there's probably some shit happening that never comes up, just look how "clean" the whole idol thing is. you'll always have drama and outright fucking shits eager to exploit because money and/or fame, with "fans" happy to ignore it for some stupid reason or another.
last thing I remember before I stopped following the whole thing really was some vtuber literally breaking down towards the end after being forced (allegedly, never looked into it) to stream for like 8 hours straight or something? and that's just your "average" corporate fuckery.

After much wrangling with vichan and failing (seriously, fuck php), I've given up on rolling my own site for now. Luckily, I remembered that jersh also spun up an infinity-chan instance that's running separate from kf's servers, so I took the easy way out and set up a board there.

For now, we can use this for shitposting and off-siting when KF is down. I'm going to continue working on trying to get my own site working for added flexibility and reliability (and I already bought the domain so why not), but 9chan will be a good intermediate step.

my advice reading the thread earlier would've been to appropriate one of webring boards (or simply make your own) that sprung up after the whole 8chan debacle. they're pretty much independent from each other to the point there are several versions of the same board, while also being so far under the radar it's probably be unattractive for shitposters (last post on /jp/ there was 3 weeks ago for example). null's 9chan is basically another instance of that, but not sure how much longer that will be up if it ever gets to the point he washes his hands of the farms and everything.

I agree that calling shit crypto-chinese is a time honored tradition on 2ch but it is kind of interesting how Chinese companies are attempting to recruit Japanese talent to stream on Bilibili. Jap suspicion of everything that smells Chinese is a survival instinct for a good reason.

Uto is contentious because her metatag incident, absurdly fast growth and less-than-subtle comparisons made by clueless EOPs makes it easy for uninvolved JOPs to believe she's just a shameless holo ripoff that only dumb westerners fall for. Under such scrutiny, every small mistake gets blown out of proportion. Great for drama, but sad for anyone involved.

Playing video games on stream as an anime character should be a harmless venture but when money, secrecy and gachikoi are involved, it's different. I think chuubas are inherently dramatic because unhealthy levels of parasocial relationships are basically encouraged on all sides. If IRL streamers had followings as passionate/obsessed as chuubas did, they'd be cult leaders (or K-pop stars).

After seeing Aqua’s new 3d face... not a fan. It looks like they took Roboco’s head and put Aqua’s hair on it. There’s something about the expressions that just don’t feel like Aqua.

Then again, Miko managed to become much more expressive with her new model so maybe Aqua just needs mroe practice.

A lot of neat stuff happened over the weekend. Shame KF was down. I enjoyed Marine's reddit review (her english is really cute and having Coco there was fun) and the Calli's The Room/Disaster Artist double feature watchalong (The Room is free on youtube if you wanna watch the vod). The MK8 stuff was pretty great too, the girls reactions and noises were on point during it.

MK8 was a lot of fun, but I do wonder if they have any regrets of holding the tournament. Being a huge Watame fan it was heartbreaking to see how horrible she felt, and honestly, it just came down to bad luck that she was stuck in the lower bracket. I personally don't watch Aqua a lot, but damn she was really upset at not getting 1st place. And again, it's MK8, skill helps *a lot* but you can still get screwed over. That's not even mentioning Matsuri, Fubuki, Mel and possibly a few others that also got quite upset.

I think their Sports Tournament was executed really well because it was mostly team-based. And you can't really point to a specific person for underperforming or losing the game. Where as a free for all like Mario Kart, if you're last it's your fault (Not really, but I felt like a lot of them felt that way).

I haven't watched a stream in a while so it was nice to watch Reine and Moona's collab, even if i did only caught it live halfway through. Among the highlights:

- Moona and Reine climbing the Monas tower behind Moona's house. Reine asked about a building in the distance (Haachama's house i think?) and Moona pretended that she couldn't see the house until she pushed Reine off the tower
- Reine respawning somewhere near a nether gate, but to get back to where she was, she had to walk all the way through the long tunnel with the tracks. There was no minecart.
- Moona and Reine accidentally finding Akukin Kensetsu's secret base under the lava pool, with Reine panicking while they find a way out
- Moona and Reine riding Haachama's Death Coaster, only for Moona to die in a pit of lava halfway through
- The stream ends with Moona asking for Reine to pay for her tour services, and that payment must be submitted in a certain box. When Reine clicked on it, she fell into a pit of lava, thus creating Moona's new peacock recipe

That's Luna? I'm surprised she didn't change her voice at all
I remember watching a video of her making takoyaki before becoming Luna and she had the exact same voice. I think it’s just the way she talks. She pretty much just babies her voice a little for Luna sometimes.

Edit: In even more news, Pekora releases an original song

Lately I’ve been really fascinated by Patra and trying to figure out what she might be IRL.

Not even in a dox sense, but the fact that she’s apparently quite skilled with DAWs and songwriting as well as being a decent guitarist, and then also being a good gamer and a Vtuber. It makes me wonder if she has an IRL job in the recording industry or something.

The MK8 tournament was great fun. I had Pekora as my Dark horse but she sucked major balls in the upper bracket final. On my second monitor I had Aqua because she's try hard and solid at the game and I love watching good players play. She cried her heart out when she lost by a point. BTW what would've happened in a tie? A 1v1 to decide the champion would've been so good. Sui-chanwakyoumokawaii deserved the win. She trained hard and wanted the W more than anyone probably, that's your usual Suisei. Although I think she won mostly because Aqua fucked up race 2 rather than she being better.

Getting together all them holos is a logistical nightmare so props to Towa for organizing, what an angel. Too bad it couldn't be a bit longer tho! Like giving lower-bracket winners a chance to participate in the upper bracket and then having them race for the finals. It would make the tourney a bit longer but the racing itself passed by pretty fast.

Also the day before they did a 6v6 cup for training and that was pretty good shit because its now a team game and you hear 6 holos shittalking on voice chat at the same time. A team championship would make this MK tourney so much better.

Marine was the surprise of the tourney as no one thought she'd gotten that good. Many holos practiced hours upon hours before the tourney and you could say the level had gotten much higher than last year as per Aqua's comment.

Loved that they gave last place a prize: The ''Zako'' badge made out of cardboard (small fry) and in the winners interview Choco elegantly recieved it.

Anyway here's Ollie freaking out over cockroaches

This wave of tweets reminded me of Matsuri reacting to Beyond the Stage concert, your usual wave of uooo's and kakkoi's. I think Lyger was replying to every single one of those.

There's a big Mario Kart tourney for the JP girls whose Switches haven't been broken by their cat. Suisei manages to pull out a victory over Aqua, much tears are had from the losers who put a ton of work into practicing.

The tournament was very fun to follow, especially checking all reactions afterwards. Lots of training and commitment (for example Watame's) went into this and while not every chuuba was happy with the outcome (to put it lightly), it was engaging for the viewer.

THIS JUST IN: Apparently Akai Haato was officially hit by a train, met God, and was reborn 100x stronger as Haachama.

She is describing herself as "the strongest idol" (in her twitter bio for example) not without reason it seems.

So in my search of finding some of the privated Hololive videos, like Luna's old MHW and DS streams, I stumbled on https://hololivevideos.download/.
Awesome. I always wanted to watch Okayu's Zelda streams, but these were gone even from Bilibili (or at least I couldn't find anything). I don't know who and how did it, but even Coco's streams are there, so I'm fine with this.

Speaking of Coco - she played mahjong in Yakuza 4 for approx. 5 hours recently. My understanding of mahjong is even lower than my Japanese knowledge, so I gave up quite quickly, but this had potential to be fun I think.

I think it's just her voice, she used it when she was Moruru at Nijisanji as well.
I'm glad she's with Hololive now though, I think she's pretty happy there.
Hm, i did hear that she moved from one agency to another, but did something happen in Nijisanji that made her leave?

I like Luna a lot, but I'm not an expert. The two main theories I've heard is that she floats around a lot to try and make it big (which would explain her abandoning her smaller characters, but not exactly Nijinsanji). The other is that she was bullied while she was with Nijisanji, which I'm leaning towards. People who've been familiar with her for a long time say she was never really happy back then, compared to how much she loves collabing with people like Matsuri and Subaru.

Even Watame said that whenever they were rehearsing for 2nd fes, Luna would always be there waiting for her afterwords so they could grab something to eat afterwords.

And the first one also doesn't exactly make any sense, since her other account doesn't have a lot of subscribers and the videos are members only. As are her twitcasts locked behind fanbox. So it's not like she's advertising it or anything.

That angle on her 3D model makes me realize how much I'm actually not a fan of the "way too big coat hanging halfway down their back" look is that Marine, Lamy, and Botan have, and probably others I'm not remembering.

It really fucks with their silhouette in a way that makes them look significantly wider than they are. Then I'm reminded of the few times Marine has actually had to move around in 3D while wearing her coat, and the big floppy sleeves making her look like a retard child when she swings her arms.

But man, Botan looking good in that 3D image, coat aside.

The MK8 tournament was both good and terrible at the same time, good because it was the same as the last one with gems such as:

Good racers falling prey to rng and into the zako bracket, Last year both Marine and Suisei were in there and Suisei could already beat Aqua during practice runs. Shion failing to show up, followed by シオンよ from her fans in chat. The host (Towa now, Miko then) advancing to strong bracket and then getting disconnected.

A good event sadly burdened by the terrible broadcast from the main channel (It was Towa's Channel this time), she had all 11 youtube channels open at the same time and it was nearly impossible to watch because they were not synchronized at all, I was a bit disappointed because I was sure they'd do it like Nijisanji and broadcast Discord shared screens instead of youtube tabs.

If you want to watch the entire thing from multiple POVs, I recommend なめたけ(nametake)'s channel, here's their work from last year.

That's the A/B groups compilation, the strong/weak compilation links are in the description, in the main channel there's already a video for this year's A group.

Korone's coat is hanging off one shoulder.

I think for Botan the coat being down the torso and thus opened up wider plays into the "lion mane" effect created by the long fur liner, which would be much less prominent if it were mixed in with her hair.
