Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I haven't watched it at all. I predicted everyone would be mad about season 2, but it seems well-received. Still I bide my time. I am confident the day will come when I will be able to say, "boy, I'm glad I didn't get invested in that."
I thought season 2 was far weaker than 1. It seemed like the entire season was repetitive filler until the last episode. That could be because I don't know the EU well enough, but every week it was "arrive, fight, get next destination, leave".

Nah. It doesn't really make a difference. All the EU Easter Eggs/references in season 2 were superficial at best and really don't change much of the narrative flow or add to the story other than make you go "ooh I remember that", but even then most of the references are again superficial or inaccurate. Only real references with any importance or long term repercussions are maybe the Dark Troopers, the Filoni Wars references which were mostly just Filoni trying to shill for the Ahsoka spinoff and glorifying his OCs some more like he does in everything he gets a hand in, and a reference to Disney's Chuck Wendig literary atrocities. In the end, the show is just search, fight and fetch quests, a pretty standard Filoni formula dating back to his days as a cartoon storyboardist.
The only relevant EU references are:
1: The Krayt Dragon pearl hunt, which is a reference to Tusken lore and mostly KOTOR, even though the Greater Krayt Dragon in the episode looks more like a penis-shaped sandworm with a big nose than a greater krayt (although a staff member of the show claims that it at least still has many legs but that's about it), and Tuskens never asking for help to hunt one down, just give you the honor of proving yourself to them by hunting one.

2: Phase III Dark Troopers, which are somewhat faithful but don't really do much except pick up the baby, get in a fight then get cut down easily by Luke, despite that Dark Troopers in old canon were made out of lightsaber-resistant materials.
1610832950866.png

3: Tython. They don't really do much with it so not much they can get wrong.
1610832793464.png

4: Namedropping Thrawn, who at this point is barely anything like his EU counterpart or as competent.
1610832869594.png

5: An HK-assassin droid, which really doesn't look like one from the OT era because its just based on some random concept art Filoni borrowed again.
1610832700870.png

6: A barely visible list of EU prison planets that's in an episode for like a second.
1610832641002.jpeg

7: Gamorrean arena fights being a popular sport.
1610832092664.png
1610833441498.png

8: Alluding to Jaster Mereel (spelled Jaste in the show) and Jango's Mando Civil War history.
1610832154894.png
1610833547250.png

9: Bib Fortuna replacing Jabba and being in a fat new body (will likely be retconned or dumbed down by some clueless Disney writer).
1610832504370.png

10: Krayt Dragons eating sarlaccs.
1610831741470.png

You could also point out Luke being competent like his pre-Disney counterpart, but they've already said the show won't retcon the wretched sequels.

Some will say the ant-alien in that one episode on Tatooine is a reference to past insect species, but apparently that puppet was only made because the director of the episode was the director of Ant-Man.
1610833275614.jpeg

Some will also point out the Knobby White Spiders appearance as being a reference, but there's nothing in common with the spiders in Mando except Filoni re-using the design for the 4th time.

All in all, there's more Filoni Wars and Disney Wars references than anything else.

Geez. They're really banking on this one shitty book somehow saving their rep in China and getting the Chinese interested in Disney Star Wars. All these years and the best they could do was a shitty book. Not even an animated web series, low-budget Chinese tv special, comic or even giving the Chinese the option to make their own crappy SW movie, but a fucking YA book that will fail horribly at capturing the attention of Chinese kids. And despite how hard they tried to pander to the Chinese with this one by marking off every item on the propaganda checklist, the book ended up being review bombed by regular Chinese readers who thought the book was garbage and the SW fans over there hated it for "further cheapening the franchise" since its almost as if you also have to check what the audience actually wants rather than simply meeting the requirements of the Chinese government.
They even named the protagonist "Sean". Nothing unique like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Just "Sean", generic white male name #328. Unless they reveal his last name in the book or something.

I just finished the 1 hour behind the scenes special for season 2 and I can confirm a couple of things.
1. The Krayt Dragon DOES INDEED have many legs. The complete CG model for the Dragon features , but you can't see them normally since the Dragon's body is usually subterranean.
2. The Dark Troopers in the Season 2 finale are actually played by actors in costume. The only CG bits about them are the servos and joints, which helps reinforce they are droids.

So this is one of the main villains for the High Republic who they're hoping will be as "iconic as Vader and Kylo Ren"...

1.
>give the model legs
>never show them

Saw the clip on youtube of this and I find it odd how they refer to the multiple legs as some sort of wholly original creative choice rather than simply stating that they got the idea from the original greater krayt design.
Reminds me of the RO inconsistency about the origin for the name Scarif, with Hidalgo claiming its a reference to some pre-Disney location (which it isn't, as the original names of the locations of the battles for the plans were Toprawa and Danuta) but then Gareth said that the name Scarif came from a misspelling on his personal mug. Its moments like these I wish Disney had allowed Rinzler to publish his Making of Books for their films just to see how much dumb shit went on behind the scenes and why so many inconsistencies kept happening during the production of Disney's films.
Regardless, them stating that the Krayt evolves more legs as it gets older is an interesting nod to The Wildlife of Star Wars from way back when, where it hints at the possibility that a greater krayt is just simply a really old (four-legged) canyon krayt, if that was their intent that is.

2. Interesting detail and a nice use of CGI. But that just adds a new inconsistency since they consider them phase 3 dark troopers and only the phase 1/2s were pure droids while the 3s were both droids and power armor.

Why does it feel like they just "barrowed" a design from Destiny?

bet that the "new" villain will have a breathing problem from the design of the mask.

Edit: just noticed that his name is Marchion Ro...so either his nickname is Marchi, march march, or RoMa. Regardless not a name that will inspire fear.

Are they gonna make it canon that the Republic fucked up the Earf and put in unkillable space wizards for lulz now?

Sure, in the Expanded Universe they were. But when introducing Expanded Universe elements to Disney Star Wars it's always an inferior version of what came before as seen with Thrawn.

Given the amount of autism from Favreau and BDH in the documentary, I think the rest of the crew were trying to hide their power level.

These people are so devoid of creativity. I bought and painted these a few years ago as chaos cultists for my 40k army. Looks pretty similar to me. Even the shape of the weapon is really close.

I honestly don't know why people are going on with this 'Civil War in Lucasfilm' thing. Disney will never EVER EVER admit it fucked a multi billion dollar property into the Earth by retconning a major trilogy. It doesn't matter how true it is to everyone on the face of the Earth. They're not going to admit weakness, especially since they're chasing the Chink dollar and everything about China is all about face. Disney will sell Star Wars before it ever admits that.

Secondly, Iger is eyeing a political career and isn't going to throw the women and minorities under the bus.

Thirdly, its easy enough for Disney to split Star Wars in as many different directions as it chases every demographic. Disney is an entertainment company that produces flavorless gruel for everyone from 5 to 85. Its what they did to their marvel franchises.

It's a bit thrilling to think that no matter how bad it gets, they will absolutely never stop. It's a unique situation in the history of entertainment. I'm a little bummed that Episode X won't be coming out this year.

It's James Earl Jones' birthday (90) and the official SW twitter account doesn't care.

Unless they're getting roughed up by the police woke people actually don't have much use for straight black males. In fact, I would say they rather despise them, given how disproportionately they are represented as emasculated castrato in pop culture these days.

Yeah, instead they've made a tweet about Kelly Marie Tran.
Priorities...

The "Civil War" narrative sounds like the latest stream of copium that closeted or open Filoni Fags are using to declare him as the sole savior of Star Wars, and fooling themselves into believing he's "a fan like them" and is sticking it to Krazy Kathleen and her gaggle of SJW's...

Which, of course, is in complete ignorance of all of Filoni's efforts to be LFL's waterboy, and the woke antics he himself has openly displayed through his dumb fucking Martez Sisters Arc, his outspoken support of TLJ, his enthusiastic agreement with the butchering of Luke, and his proud endorsement of the deification of female characters in mythology over their "inferior" male ones (as depicted in Art of TROS book).

This is one thing that the Filoni Fandom completely refuses to acknowledge, and will actively shout down to protect their favorite wolfaboo. They will actively shove their fingers in their ears at the surest sign of their savior being infected by the same idealogy they claim to resent Kathleen And Co. for having.

It's part of why I give a lot of respect to YTers like Ryan at RK Outpost for refusing to join the flock of Filoni Cronies and giving him blind support. He actively called out Filoni's shit plenty of times, and has practically laughed off the prospect of an internal LFL Civil War every time someone brings it up to him.

The incredible Kelly Marie Tran who will not even have a quarter as iconic a career as James Earl Jones..
Jones is universally recognized for playing the role of Darth Vader, but one of the roles I love him in the most is as Thulsa Doom in the original Conan.

Such a powerful voice and presence. And it sticks in my mind more than Vader, because we actually see Jones' face and performance on-camera. His speech about flesh being stronger than steel that he gives to Conan is my favorite line in that entire film.
