those VRchat models aren't cheap either. a decently rigged and modeled one can go from around $300-700. if i was his ex i'd be pretty burnt he's considering dropping that kind of money on himself and not on his kids.

I doubt he'll actually get a motion tracking one (which is usually why they're so expensive). You don't need a VR set to play VR Chat according to the Steam page so he's likely just going to cheap out on a base model if he can.
