Now I don't know much about this shit, but I'm pretty sure a 12 week old fetus doesn't look like a fully formed baby only smaller. Aren't they pretty weird and alien looking? Not to mention sticky and red? And I'd imagine one with some fucked up abnormality not compatible with life with look even more unlike a full term, healthy baby.

Jews don’t consider a miscarriage the same as a baby and traditional Jewish mourning rituals do not apply — this holds true up until 30 days after the birth (Jews also tend to be quite permissive on abortion, even the strict ones). They also don’t have baby showers until after the baby is born in case something goes wrong. Not that this doesn’t mean Jewish women don’t grieve miscarriages, of course.

I just saw a post on another board from a woman who said her friend's grandson and his wife were expecting a baby last fall, and she caught COVID and passed it on to her 20-week-old baby through the placenta, and he died in utero. At 20 weeks, in their state, a death certificate is issued, and this was done for them.

From everything I've seen, they're past the weird lizard alien stage but not by much. They have really strangely proportioned bodies (really large heads for their size, a thick and short neck, arms and legs are very small conparitively) and are about the size of a roll of film, or apparently a lime, I guess it depends. Yeah I decided to look myself and found a Snopes article debunking a different (but equally inaccurate) 12 week fetus doll. It contained a pic of a real miscarried 12 week fetus and yeah, it did not look anything like the fundie dolls. I apparently was on the mark remembering red, sticky alien. Also they're red because the skin is extremely thin and translucent, so you wouldn't have white or token ethnic 12 week fetuses.

However, once Jerry Farwell began influencing the Republicans, who were courting a lot of evangelicals, it's like they started moving from the idea of 'life or ensoulment begins at quickening (the baby's first movements in the womb) to 'life begins at conception.'

One position allows for abortion up to a certain time, the other considers abortion to be murder.

They used the same Bible, but now they see different things in it. What do they see now that they didn't before, and what justification are they using to adopt a Catholic view, even while some still saying that Catholics aren't 'Christian?'

It's telling prolifers seem to think all women who have abortions are nasty sluts who have unprotected sex with every man they see (when most are normal-ass women in committed relationships, and a good chunk did use some kind of protection).

While a good chunk of prolifer are indeed ok with it for rape, there are some hardcore extremists like Sarah that think even rape victims shouldn't be allowed to abort their rapists offspring. As far as I'm concerned those types should just move to Saudi Arabia or some other similar oppressive shithole because the US clearly isn't the right country for them. Though I think even Saudi Arabia would allow abortion in the case of a FUBAR inside-out baby.

As for what the Bible says, I'm not Christian but as far as I know the Bible doesn't say a single thing about abortion in specific and treats fetuses and even babies and children as pretty disposable. Seriously, isn't there a shitton of infanticide in the Bible?

In the UK, the threshold is 24 weeks. If a baby is stillborn after 24 weeks, the stillbirth is registered (literally a stillbirth certificate, rather than birth and death certificates). Before 24 weeks is considered a miscarriage and no certificate is issued.

Most evangelicals and most Catholics use birth control within marriage. If they didn’t, the US birth rate would be enormously high, considering that combined the two groups make up about half the population. I grew up in a heavily Catholic area and I knew very few Catholic families with more than three kids and none with 7+ except one immigrant family (7 is the average number of kids a woman will have without contraception). A Catholic lady near me had 17 kids from the 40s through the 60s and 41 grandkids.

The abstinence only sex ed states also tend to be quite poor. Utah has a very low teen birth rate despite being heavily religious. Areas with lots of poverty will always have higher birth rates for teens and young women.

For what it's worth the people here that presented all the abstinence only shit were very probably Mormon. Fundies are non-existent in Arizona and most Catholics are Mexican, but these people (women mostly) were white (non-Mexican), so, Mormon. Or some type of Baptist, possibly.

Maybe the mother wasn't getting enough oxygen and it died because of it, and having COVID itself was irrelevant? I'd like to know myself, this could be important.
