US Turn snitch and get rich: Texas teen gives his own dad in to the FBI, pays his way through college

Texas teenager has turned his father in to the FBI for taking part in the Capitol Hill riot, and pocketed tens of thousands of dollars from liberal admirers in the process.

When Jackson Reffitt’s father returned to the family home in Wylie, Texas, after the pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill earlier this month, Jackson claimed that he warned his son to keep his mouth shut. “If you turn me in, you’re a traitor,” he reportedly said. “And you know what happens to traitors. Traitors get shot.”
However, Jackson had already reported the 48-year-old Guy Reffitt to the FBI, telling agents he thought his father was planning “something big” during the certification of election results at the capitol, per a New York Times article on Sunday. After the riot, Reffitt was identified in video footage from the Capitol, tracked down in Texas, and arrested, according to a sworn affidavit by an FBI agent.

Guy Reffitt was charged with obstruction of justice and of knowingly entering a restricted building, though he claims he never actually entered the Capitol. Jackson Reffitt left his family home, and has since become something of a celebrity.

Turning in his father landed Reffitt interviews with CNN, Fox and the New York Times, with the CNN interview the first his family heard about his contact with the FBI. “My mom and my sisters are absolutely ruined about the news from what I did,” Reffitt tweeted on Saturday.

Apparently encouraged by his supporters, Reffitt set up a crowdfunding campaign, and after raising the donation limit several times has netted just under $87,000 in less than three days. This amount has paid for his university tuition, repaired his car, and purchased his dental insurance, Reffitt wrote on GoFundMe.

Praise has poured in from liberals, who applauded Reffitt’s “bravery” in snitching on his own father.

Jackson isn’t the only child to rat out his family members following the Capitol Hill debacle. One 18-year-old outed her mother, aunt and uncle after seeing them in a photo taken at the Capitol. Another cut ties with her father and tipped off law enforcement when she saw him at the riot. Both girls were treated to profiles in the media, and drew the same storm of liberal praise and conservative backlash.

More than 100 people have been arrested in connection with the riot, while the FBI has opened more than 200 case files, according to the BBC. Among the charges leveled against the rioters are “significant felony cases tied to sedition and conspiracy,” United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Michael Sherwin told reporters earlier this month.

As the legal system grinds on, Democrat lawmakers have proposed tough new domestic terror legislation, while liberal pundits have spoken openly about “deprogramming” former President Donald Trump’s supporters and “cleansing” politics of the ‘MAGA’ movement.

Yes, get rid of your social support network right before signing up for predatory loans and shitty low quality drugs in a cramped room. This faggot's gonna be absolutely miserable later in life and its all his own fault lmao.
Kid thinks he knows everything, like most kids his age. The money will go away faster than he anticipated too. If his father was the main breadwinner the rest of his family could be homeless or screwed.
Of course, it does not apply in all cases and all crimes, and of course Cicero (or whichever old timey famous philosopher) was from a completely different time with varying attitudes, but generally the principle should be true. If your parent is an abusive substance user, that's different. But of a lot of us, your parents are almost guaranteed to be the one group of people you can rely on. When shit hits the fan and you need help, your parents will more than likely be some of the very few people that will help.

For something as minor as this, even if the father is threatening them (probably because he's seen what has happened to others and is worried), you should never sell them out to the state. The state will never give back for the years of "being a good citizen", and your trustworthiness will crap the bed. When people used the term "he would sell his own mother for x", it wasn't meant to be a compliment.
Cutting off parents is incredibly dumb 90% of the time.

Especially forsaking your entire family. For what? Fuck sakes.

I believe it was Cicero (though I might be wrong, anyone can correct me) who argued that if a father committed a crime then Cicero would expect the son to defend him in court instead of ratting him out to the state. When asked whether that conflicted with the son's loyalty towards the state, he argued that by defending the father he was being loyal to the state. If every child sold out their mother and father, then they would not hesitate to sell out their city, they cannot be trusted, and would only bring ruin to the state. If instead he defends his father in spite of the risks, then he is a loyal citizen that can be counted on to do the right thing (I think that is how it goes).

Now of course, that doesn't apply in all cases and all crimes, but the man had a point. If these fucking people are willing to play Judas with their parents, they will sell you out for a promotion or cheat you out of your money in a second. They are never, ever to be trusted.

Jackson Reffitt from Texas - Ever see this guy in 10-20 years in business or work, don't fucking trust him.
Exactly, and by making a big deal of it, it'll be easy to find forever. I believe it is your duty with certain extreme crimes to rat out your family, but those are things like pedophila and murder. Not a confused boomer protest where nothing that extreme happened. You couldn't trust this guy to keep a non-criminal secret, like an affair or medical condition. He's already shown that he's for sale.

He's got a second whammy coming his way though. He's basically won a medium-sized lottery and is heading off away from his ex-family and friends, and moving to a city where he knows no one but there'll be people who know him as a mark. He's about to have every professional tick in his new city angling to hit him.

Friendly reminder: nobody would have grounds to be upset if the people making a career out of rioting all last year got anywhere near this level of scrutiny.

Rules for thee, but not for me.

Also, it's still funny as hell that Baked Alaska got v&, and nobody can ever take that away from you.

Colleges are just another name for unis, right,
Basically yes but different connotations. "College" a catch-all term for higher education, but often refers to "community colleges" that accept literally anyone and seldom have programs that extend beyond a bachelor's degree. "University" tends to refer to more prestigious institutions that actually have things like admissions standards and research departments.

I believe the difference is that universities offer graduate degrees.

Hope he enjoys those pieces of silver, as he's essentially severed his main lifeline in case things in his life go tits-up.
It was necessary for Judas to betray Jesus, for if he he hadn't, the Lord may not have captured and crucified for our sins before he rose into exaltation. Don't compare this situation to that one.

Unless, the Texan dad and son were in it together the whole time. Now THAT'S a good grift, right there. You know Dad's legal fees will be paid by someone with a bleeding heart for 'Murican Patriots. Perhaps, this was a plot between the two to be able to afford the child's college education in this age of skyrocketing tuition.

Kids are not investments anymore. They are liability.
Having children has ways been a liability. You know how much effort goes into rearing a kid? Even when there were family farms and the boys quit education to help out past the age of ten, just getting a kid to survive to that age took a lot of work.

Universities are made up of colleges but people tend to say "I'm in college" to refer to any higher education, especially undergrad, regardless of where they're going.

This kid just learned that this sort of behavior pays. It blows my mind the stuff people will throw money at, especially at a time like this where most of the people supporting someone like this probably don't have that much money to throw around if they're being responsible.

IF...

Man, wish we could know for sure instead of just taking some family-betraying shitstain's word for it.
If
Remember, son, turn on me and you're a traitor. Traitors get shot!
Lmao. Take your cope pills, dude. Dad was an unstable retard. If this were a leftist turning in their retarded ANTIFAG family member for attacking cops you'd be sucking each other off over it.

Yeah, he did report him before. But if the dad was a piece of shit, and his son hated him for his obviously spastic behavior, then it is probable that his father probably liked to throw threats around, even get physical.
You're moving the goalposts. You said that he reported him because of the shooting threats-- that's false, because he reported him before he allegedly made the shooting threats.

It very well could be that he was a terrible father. The story so far isn't lining up too well, though.

Don't project your moral inconsistency onto everyone else.
