/r/wsb autists taking on a wallstreet hedgefund. Elon musk involved as always / wallstreetbets / gamestop - Gamergate 2: financial boogaloo

I'm too stupid for this shit. When do the McDonalds workers rise up?
When their McDonald's closes because the franchisee dumped all their liquidity into a hedge fund BTFO by wsb autists.

Reminder that none of this would have happened had Melvin Capital respected his her pronouns.

@I-chi Since I can't quote you for some reason, for anyone who hasn't read "Going Postal" and "Making Money" by Terry Pratchett - do so at the earliest convenience. Audiobook is good too. So is the live action adaptation.
Those are two of my favorite discworld books. Raising Steam is also good, but don't quite hit the bar Going Postal and Making Money did in my opinion. Still Moist von Lipwig is still one of my favorite characters out of the whole series.
Might be because my quote was in a quote, sorry about that lol. I had neglected to attribute but yes I second this. If you want an extraordinarily relevant parallel to the financial world and economics in general, I would vastly recommend these two entries into the Discworld series. The quote I posted remained perhaps one of my favorite jabs at manipulative Bankers and Banking to this day. Terry Pratchett was a very angry man in his time, and you wouldn't get that sense from his literary bite; never to its detriment.
Moving Pictures is also another good, but underrated one. Lays into the madness people succumb to in the entertainment industry pretty nicely and just how it can change a person.

wsb did nothing illegal on paper. However, I have no confidence in the American government to interpret law fairly and evenly. Look at the capital protest vs the blm riots for no further proof.

I have a feeling an overzealous poster (or a few) that did make a killing will be fucked. We'll probably have to invent a new word for it, like SECposting instead of FEDposting.

"pssst...Hey kid, wanna do some violations of the antifraud provisions in the securities laws?"

I played that detective adventure game from the 90s, does that count

What mechanisms prevent foreign money from playing the market from by proxy, cause if you're in a country with no extradition, could not you not just pump and dump all the time and catch no flack?

Would buying stocks at this stage of the game do anything? I'd like to make a couple bucks and/or stick it to some banking yuppies.
Assuming no fuckery happens behind the scenes, you have one more day. Friday is the planned sell off. Monday is you're feeling ballsy.

I wonder how this will affect crypto (price of selling and buying crypto with usd)
Ultimately crypto will go up no matter what -- Institutions will still buy more for diversification and a hedge, individuals will see this shitshow and say "maybe I need to diversify?"

Also, all those wsb tendies will prob throw some at crypto in the name of YOLO (hallowed be his name)

So if I install Robinhood tonight, it'd get approved in time? Not entirely sure how the app works but I'm really interested now.
