Captain Werner was at the tiller and Bowsman O'Kelly was watching the 80' tow line to make sure it was nice and tight, not to slack any for they would jerk the team and that wasn't good for them.
Because it could pull them off course. Driver Thomas was riding the shaft mule and Captain Werner yelled at him to get off that mule, "you're being paid to lead the team not to hitch a ride"! Captain Werner is a fare man, but he does have a temper at times, Now Bowsman O'Kelly was yelling at Willy to slow up the team that they were going to fast, we are suppose to go 4 mph not 6.
If a lock keeper catches us, we will get a fine, and we are getting close to lock # 37 and Keeper is Mathias Stout a mean cuss. I don't want to get him at that point. Then Captain Werner said and I agree, as he woke up, from his 2 minute nap.

I feel victim blaming is deplorable, but really you did have it coming. Maybe a few more raps to the head will get you to calm the fuck down, or even straighten your eye act. You choose the behavior, you choose the consequences.

You took a shot and received the punishment. What the cameras may or may not have caught was a open-and-shut case of self defense. You're lucky that all you got was a swift hook, because a man with less restraint would have put you in the fucking hospital with the way you treat people.

From here on out, I'm gonna call you Len Shiner.

In the words of Shaner, I've got another bit of interesting news.

So the guy @Schuylkill Valley tried to punch is actually one of the people testifying against Shaner at the hearing. Now there's a reasonable chance he might get hit with attempted intimidation of a witness. Just a little update. One of the train guys might be able to verify this.

I'm gonna start a topic on here. Shaner is the worst railfan I have ever came across on the internet. I see him blame others for his stuff. And sometimes he goes overboard. There are other railfans like him. But he is the worst railfan I ever came across. In person or on the internet.

Just a little rewrite of Leonard's monstrosity.

To John Werner, captain of the barge “Union Canal No. 231”, going down the Schuylkill canal was akin to treading backwards in time. They had just left Reading, and it would take them about four days to get to Philadelphia. He was at the tiller while his bowman, Jimmy O’Kelly, was keeping a close eye on the towline, making sure it was nice and tight. Jimmy, at 23, was younger than the captain by thirty-three years. He had had two children of his own, Phil and Jessica. Like Jimmy, they just went out into the world. They had their own places, their own jobs, their own lives. John was still a part of them, but now, they were far from the little ones that called him “Daddy”. In a way, Jimmy took up Phil’s role while he was off, but it couldn’t ease the longing. He missed Phil and Jessica, as well as his wife Mary.
“Earth to Cap,” Jimmy said. He pointed at the shaft mule, prompting John to turn towards it in the winter air. Willy Thomas, one of the three mule drives, was riding it.
“Goddamn it, Willy, this isn’t your personal speedboat,” John shouted. Stepping closer to where Willy was, he noticed needle was at six, rather than four. “You want the lock keeper to bust our balls? Slow down.”​
