Dating app Bumble is putting the kibosh on body shaming.

The company announced Wednesday that the app would begin throwing out members caught using “language that can be deemed fat-phobic, ableist, racist, colorist, homophobic or transphobic.”

The new restrictions will apply to users’ direct messages as well as those with profiles that openly discriminate against different body types.

“Body shaming is not acceptable on or off of the Bumble app,” a statement from Bumble reads. “For those who may not know, body shaming means forcing your opinion of a ‘good body’ onto others.”

An algorithm has been set up to flag words and phrases associated with “body shaming,” then assessed by a live moderator, according to the Guardian. Warnings will then be sent to users at their first offense — along with sensitivity-training materials — before being banned entirely.

The Austin, Texas-based company wants to foster “a kinder, more respectful and more equal space on the internet,” said Naomi Walkland, who runs Bumble’s overseas marketing division. “Key to this has always been our zero-tolerance policy for racist and hate-driven speech, abusive behavior and harassment.”

A 2016 survey by WooPlus, a dating app for plus-size women, found that 71% of 1,000 users who called themselves “curvy” had also been fat-shamed by men on other dating apps. More broadly, a 2020 Pew study found that 33% of women on dating apps had been called an offensive name by another user.

Fans of women-centered app Bumble — which urges lady users to “make the first move” — say the move is another reason why they love the company.

“I’m very interested in seeing how this works, and also EXTREMELY happy to see it launch,” tweeted music journalist Courtney E. Smith.

Some are calling for other dating apps to take note.

“Maybe @Grindr could follow suit. That app is a cesspit of toxicity around the body and race,” said one fan of the change.

For the record, I wouldn't recommend using any of these new fangled dating apps, including Bumble. Almost all of them require a phone number or a facebook account to register, which I shouldn't need to tell you how bad this is in regards to privacy and security.

If you're going to do online dating, just stick with the ones that require an email address (Match, eHarmony, POF, etc...). Only time you'd have to give your info is if you're paying for a premium account (with eHarmony & Match, you kinda don't have a choice in that regard). They may be old and "outdated" but if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Also keep away from OKCupid... shit became a liberal/SJW safe haven that got rid of a few useful features, even basic ones like seeing who viewed your profile.
Bumble is an app where women are supposed to pursue men.

This is, of course, against the grain of inherent human behavior as well as against any culture arising from inherent human behavior (i.e., all of them.)
I actually don't mind a site that encourages women making the first move. Women are so fucking picky when it comes to the kind of messages they get from guys... not assholes, but genuine guys that actually are looking for a relationship.

They expect you to read their novel of a bio down to every comma and period, and then expect you to write a fucking novel of your own for the message. "Hi, how are you?" just doesn't cut it anymore. Even if you obey their rules, it's still a coin-flip on whether or not you'll get a reply back.

And if you're anything related to or near red that's looking to date in a blue state, you're completely fucked. Women will have no problem putting up signs on their profile that display every "ist" and "ism" and will tell you to fuck off if you don't support most (if not all) of their views politically.

Why on Earth would you want to date some picky cunt full of hypocritical SJW bullshit? Sounds like she saved you the trouble by leaving you on read.

And prepare to get pegged with a dick that may or may not be rubber if a chick makes the first move.

I bet they'll still allow profiles where the woman says you gotta be 6'5+

Those are usually the easiest chicks to get laid with. You just go along with it and at some point they'll bring up their cat. Mention you wanna meet their cat and they'll invite you to their place. Then you just go from there

Filthy fucking casuals get what they deserve.

I'm not surprised that this was coming, Whitney Wolfe Herd is a former Tinder co-founder and founded Bumble after she left the company, after leaving Tinder she sued Tinder for sexual harassment which ended in a $1 million settlement in September of 2014.
From Wikipedia:
Bumble has been considered as a "feminist Tinder."[51][52] Its founder has confirmed this identity, calling the app "100 percent feminist," although she has attempted to distance the app from Tinder in interviews.[49][4] Wolfe Herd shared in an interview with Vanity Fair the concept behind the app: "If you look at where we are in the current heteronormative rules surrounding dating, the unwritten rule puts the woman a peg under the man—the man feels the pressure to go first in a conversation, and the woman feels pressure to sit on her hands... If we can take some of the pressure off the man and put some of that encouragement in the woman’s lap, I think we are taking a step in the right direction, especially in terms of really being true to feminism. I think we are the first feminist, or first attempt at a feminist dating app."[49]

Presumably because men (likely "chads", given that they were able to match and have a conversation with a real, non-transwoman) weren't into being taken for a ride by a bunch of women who couldn't be honest about the state of their body.

You're not curvy. You don't have curves, and if you say that you have "a curve", you're even more deluded. You've put on weight. You're fat. You're at risk of heart disease. If you feel so bad about it, hit the gym.

I'd say the inverse about anorexic bodies, but they're deliberately excluded from the HAES movement because they make it more obvious that the true goal is to get men to affirm their pathological sloth.

It works in exactly the same way any other dating app works. If you're an average man, your matches will be sparse-- a quarter of them will be bots, another will be transwomen, another will be women who'll ghost you until the timer runs out because they were just swiping right a whole lot with no consideration for who they were swiping right on, one-eighth are dreadfully boring women that you swiped on because you were just swiping right a whole lot with no consideration for who you were swiping right on (because your chances were already sucky), and the rest are advertising their Instagram.

You'd be better off fishing in your local church.

Your local liturgical church.

This is, of course, against the grain of inherent human behavior as well as against any culture arising from inherent human behavior (i.e., all of them.)

Therefore it selects for damaged people of both sexes-- Borderline or Histrionic personality disorder women (lolcows) and Supreme Gentleman incel males (lolcows.)

It is, therefore, a lolcow breeding program. Watching it commit suicide is concerning; must we not protect our corn harvest?
In the best of cases, you think you're getting an app that attracts role reversal types (think woman bridal carrying man). Really, you're getting Tinder with a shifted initial burden and a time limit for initiation.

With dating apps, if you're not having success outside them, you're not having success within them. On the "bright" side, you get a good view of millennial and zoomer women.

Just try to not exit the app a newly formed misogynist.

Isn't Bumble like... a really woke dating site?
If so, I'm unsurprised they're banning oldthinkers from using it.
I had way more luck with Bumble than Tinder. Tinder seems to be 90% women just advertising their social media accounts these days. OKCupid, before it became Tinder-lite, was the best though.

A dating app that sends you training materials to change your dating wrongthink? LMAO I couldn't imagine dating in this day and age, it sounds like a fucking nightmare.

profiles that openly discriminate against different body types.
I never understood why people get so bent out of shape about this. It saves so much time for both sides. The normal person filters out the fatties and gross trannies and the undesirables don't waste their time barking up the wrong tree.

My experience with tinder was installing it, swiping through eight girls in a row advertising that they were prostitutes. Then uninstalling it.
