I think it's funny when a member of the waifuism subreddit thinks that the "animesexual" thing is offensive because it's satire. The term "waifuism" started as complete satire until the subreddit began taking itself seriously about 3-4 years ago.
As silly as it is, at least the term fictosexual has SOME semblance of wanting to be taken seriously. Imagine a professor using the word "waifuism" in a study. Just LOL.

They're essentially the same thing. One is just the weeb version of the other. Fictosexual isn't as widely known either, but I promise anybody that should they use fictosexual in the search box of say, tumblr, the results will be pretty similar. Fictosexual seems to be used more by people who couldn't join r/waifuism because their character(s) of choice aren't lolis/shotas or neon-haried Gary-Stus.
What little seriousness there's to be had with Fictosexuals comes solely from the title and it's lack of satirical origins.
