I was trying to put myself in their shoes and try and understand how they got into this situation, then I realized their entire problem wasn't doing research beforehand because no one who wasn't retarded would have gotten themselves into this mess in the first place.

It has to be "safe, sane and consensual". Of course, wanting to hurt, hit and humilate your sexual partners can become unsafe and insane very quickly.
