Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I have this 37-year old male co-worker who I'm having a hard time doing shifts with. He's a bearded vegan feminist; he once shit on me for making a Monica Lewinsky joke, because she's a "victim of sexual assault."

The other day he goes off about how excited he is to get the vaccine. He tells me of this website that I can go to that you can plug in all of your information and it will give you an estimate of when the vaccine will be made available to you. Since he's healthy and young, the website showed him that he won't be eligible for the vaccine for quite some time. He was genuinely upset about this, truly. He says since he's middle-aged-ish and doesn't want children (even though his girlfriend does want children) that he is fine with being a lab rat via the vaccine and when I said, "Im not taking it", he got so pissy with me that he had to take a 15 minute break to "cool off".

Honestly went around some subs on Reddit today and the doomers are beginning to freak out because the end of this thing is near. I wonder what they will do when everything is normal again in the summer?

Oh they'll continue to screech and play moral police until at least 2022, fervently checking for new scary updates on virus strains (without actually reading anything beyond the doomsdaying article headlines, of course) chastising everyone who dares to spend time with others without a muzzle, lamenting the albeist/broken/horrible healthcare system, and screaming about how profit and capitalism are valued over human life.

Many of them will likely be permanent agoraphobes who will break out into cold sweats at the thought of attending a concert, conference or any large gathering, let alone leaving the safety of their home bubbles.

In short, they'll continue to be nightmares on social media, but the normies will eventually chill out and ignore them.

Hearing about double masks and the escalation of all this covid shit makes me really appreciate moving to a city in a state with no mask mandate or covid shutdowns. I see people's friendly faces when I go out, and life is pretty much back to normal.
Same. I have never been happier to live in a red state than now. Even if the nearest city is ruled by a cuck mayor, at least most of the state is still normal. Like I can get my hair cut in a nearby town and neither me nor the hairdresser are wearing a mask and no hint I'm living in COVID-1984 aside from a "face it, masks work" propaganda ad on the local country music station. Driving back through the town, I only saw one fat chick wearing a mask and no one else. No signs WEAR A MASK on the doors of businesses. It's like a place where the insanity of the world forgot to visit.

I just hope with people like Cuomo encouraging reopening that in a month or two I can go to a restaurant and not have to pretend to be a maskfag. But I doubt that will happen since the mask hijab is now a sign you are a good and moral person who votes right.
Americans are really fucking stupid, that's all there is to it. A lot of people seriously believe everything the TV man says instantly without so much as a second thought.
This country is full of cowards. Your average person isn't an insane maskfag or whatever CNN loves but your average person is a centrist idiot who believes in mandatory masking and that lockdowns can work. There's so little leadership in this country saying "no, we aren't doing this here." Trump's response was pretty weak and all we have is DeSantis in Florida and Noem in South Dakota trying for alternative paths. What they did should be the baseline of what should've been done by May 1.

We surrendered our liberty without a shot and the only people who resisted were a couple of boomers in Michigan. In places with less repression, there's barely any resistance--it's too easy to simply go along with.

How the fuck do you breathe comfortably through this? Do these people not ever drink water, blow their nose, etc.? Doesn't this get nasty and moist and full of spittle and bacteria that you keep on re-inhaling all day?

So he is wearing an N95 / KN95 mask but wears a surgical mask underneath?

Doesn't the surgical mask have a worse seal than a N95 mask and by doing so isn't he actually increasing his risk from just wearing a N95 mask alone.

Here's some more brainwashed nonsense from Twitter:

Oh no, people sitting INSIDE in the dead of winter. EATING. How DARE they!!! People are DYING!!111

These idiots really think some gov bux is going to convince healthy adults to stay home in their pods for 2 fucking years. Face it: even with stimulus paychecks, people are STILL going to do what they want.

They want the government to slap them around so bad it's downright masochistic.

Meanwhile, two of my co-workers told me today they firmly believe even if EVERYONE is tested and shows no symptoms, it's still selfish and evil and dangerous to meet in small gatherings because there is a CHANCE you could spread COVID.
Americans then v now - Copy.jpg

Yes.
This is why with real respirators (P-100 & greater) they actually make you shave your facial hair because even a little bit of stubble can "break the seal" and allow pathogens/chemicals through.

This double masking shit is pure talisman/virtue signal.

It's not about the effectiveness, it's about showing that you believe in The Science.

I loved how when I was in Bend, Oregon sure there may have been signs saying you'd get fined in downtown for not wearing a massk and you had to wear them in restaurants but the vast majority of people weren't wearing them on the streets and while out and about.

Unfortunately my buff is starting to get holes in it from wearing it everyday. I should try to push the envelope here and wear the more hole-y side of it in LA.

Unironically, I think they realized they screwed up by banning him from everywhere. Sure, you can still find some platforms grifting the "muh Trump!!!" angle, but it's only been a couple of weeks since Trump left office. Since Trump is really off the scene without Twitter or anything, there's this vacuum of new Trump info or news. We saw it with the GME stuff, where they wanted to blame le ebil orange man, but there were no easy Trump tweets to embed in an article or something to shift the narrative. Suddenly, journalists (read: traitors to the country) realize they might have to produce actual news to be taken seriously. And all the while, Trump's star rises among his base since he's only a memory and not actively screwing anything up.
It really makes you wonder how much different things would’ve been if Trump had been deplatformed 4 years ago or had wisely chosen to turn over his Twitter to a Whitehouse communications person. As much as everyone wants to blame the evil orange man for everything, there were actually forces out there trying to sabotage him since before he was in office and it really is unfortunate he was so good at bringing attention to the wrong things at the wrong time.

Agoraphobia is no joke and is mostly rooted in anxiety disorders. It isn't something I would wish on anyone and the fact that a lot of blue states want most of the people living in their districts to develop the inability to leave their homes (what with not having to leave cause everything can be delivered if you don't live out in a rural area) makes me MATI. It's no way to live and it can be very difficult to get under control once you develop it.

I really only see masks in my area inside buildings. If they're out of the street no one wears them but I live in suburbia that might as well function as a small village

They'll do the same thing they are already doing.

They will report on a "new strain" and say they need to keep the lockdowns in place until the "new strain" is handled.

Then there will be another "new strain."

Les than a quarter of the population walks freely outside in my area fyi.

But anyway....

For months, public health officials have said that younger adults have been big drivers of the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S. But new research suggests there’s another age group that may be fueling new cases of the virus: people ages 35 to 49.
I wonder why?
So, what’s going on here? The latest data suggests that “due to work, school and general activity, the middle ages generally move a lot compared to the elderly or very young,” study co-author Dr. Samir Bhatt, an associate professor in geostatistics in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College London, tells Yahoo Life. That, he says, increases their risk of infection — and of passing the virus on to others. But, Bhatt adds, it’s “difficult to disentangle” exactly what’s happening “aside from the fact they generally move more.”
Adalja says the study and other data raise the possibility that vaccinating middle-aged people sooner may help control the spread of the virus. “It’s clear from this data where public health targeting needs to be,” he says. “There could be a theoretical advantage of vaccinating the group of individuals to decrease spread.”
Shit story.
So, vaccinate the boomers?
