Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I'm sure I'm missing some stuff as well.
And like others said, if it weren't for the media and "influencers", you may have no idea there's a "pandemic" going on - people knew there was the bubonic plague, but now people "have to be" continuously reminded to "stay home and save lives". All over a scamdemic that's causing far more psychological and economic damage than the actual virus - which really is "just a flu bro".

As I've said, to see the insanity, swap any instance you see of "COVID-19", "coronavirus", etc. with "regular flu".

It really makes you wonder how much different things would’ve been if Trump had been deplatformed 4 years ago or had wisely chosen to turn over his Twitter to a Whitehouse communications person. As much as everyone wants to blame the evil orange man for everything, there were actually forces out there trying to sabotage him since before he was in office and it really is unfortunate he was so good at bringing attention to the wrong things at the wrong time.

If I had to pick an absolute moment when Trump's Presidency was lost, it was the "inject bleach" comment. As much as the media had been trying to manufacture "gotcha!" moments and questions for 3 years, it was Trump himself saying that which doomed him.

Up to that point, he had been killing it with his COVID response, seeming very Presidential and handling it well. Corona seemed like a thing that would guarantee him a win.

When he said that though the media really latched on, his experts had to distance from him, and normies couldn't defend him. He stopped doing the daily press conferences soon after and gave the momentum to Cuomo on that front. It was all ogre.

So basically Trump is his own worst enemy.

Guess some seniors are depressed because they can't see family. Am in my seventh decade, haven't seen son since July, can't remember the last time I saw daughter. Not depressed at all. Got phone and email. Long as my kids and their families are okay, that's all I need. I'm as active as I want to be. But then again, I normally keep to myself a lot anyway, like to read and be online. Not letting the ChiCom Flu rule my life. Survived one life-threatening condition, recently dodged another. Plan to wait a couple of years until the vaccine has proven itself. Not dying for some government bureaucrat whom I don't trust anyway. Nevertheless, this ChiCom Flu thing has turned into a Vietnam War-level national fuckup.

They finally did some mass immunizations over the last weekend in my ruraltopia (about 5,000), but now aren't sure that they have enough doses to give people second shots. The local government is making out like it's a supply issue, and they were supposed to have received the doses already. It's all SNAFU. I expect I'll be in the next wave, if the vaccine ever arrives.

My Ma is definitely a bit upset that she hasn't seen any of us in over a year, but she took up watercolors, and we talk daily, so it seems okay. Dad is going slowly insane. He likes to go out and shop and walk the beach and be amongst people.
That said, there is nothing in the world like a bear hug from your parent, (not sure if that feeling is reciprocated), so I hope you get to see them soon.

Meanwhile in Australia... If you read the thread, the man in question in the sexual assault case apparently went after multiple women before getting arrested. Guess the only one he could catch was 66 years old.

This really has to suck. There is a niche hobby with an event hosted each summer in New York state that draws a lot of people, their families, and other interested fans. If it gets cancelled for a second year in a row, it's going to be a big blow to the host venue and the surrounding hotels/business that normally make brisk business that weekend from everyone being there for the event. Meanwhile, local and state governments can't figure out why their tax revenue is down even when's it obvious that the draconian COVID restrictions being imposed mean less tax money is being generated when people are out of work and/or spending less.

Church attendance is already low in the US as it is (around 30% tops, maybe, for Christian denominations, I think?) even despite brief upticks in times of crisis such as 9/11 or the holidays of Christmas and Easter. i imagine those numbers will in fact be higher for churches whose congregations are much older and thus more vulnerable to COVID. These are the ones who will probably watch "Mass for Shut-ins" (or its equivalent) if they lack the technical know how to watch their church's live-streamed service. Others, as you point out, will decide that there's no subsititute for in-person worship and simply stop going. I'll be curious to see what some of the die-hard young adult Catholics do in my region -- especially those who believed pre-COVID that there was never a good excuse for missing Mass each Sunday.

On the up side, those who still want to support their churches have taken advantage of online giving programs or still send in their contributions. Still, I imagine there will be many churches that have to tighten their belts when their next fiscal year ends.. and some might have to consider merging or closing outright if they can't sustain themselves financially.

And don't forget that many seniors that stay active do so because they feel they have a purpose in life. I knew a 90-something who ran her own business up until the last 6 weeks she lived. Once her health slipped too much and she couldn't go to work any more, she lost the will and her reason to live. COVID made it worse because nobody was allowed to visit her when she was in the nursing home for the last month or so she was alive. Small wonder people were mad on and offline about what happened with nursing homes.

I always find it funny when the teachers unions for inner-city districts such as Detroit, Chicago, LA, etc. threaten work stoppages or actually walk the picket lines because they feel the school board doesn't care about the students that have fallen behind on their education. Since COVID became a thing, the teachers unions in these cities have turned blind eyes and deaf ears to the parents who want in-person instruction so that their kids don't fall behind more than they already have -- the same kids these unions rally behind when they demand better working conditions and opportunities during contract negotiations.

While I'll agree it's reasonable for the unions to request that school districts have something in place to protect/help vulnerable teachers concerned about COVID, a flat-out refusal to allow classroom instruction is short-sighted at best and detrimental to the students at worst.

Breaks my cold, black heart when I hear about kids committing suicide and being sexually assaulted or otherwise abused now that they're home all the time. No one really gives two shits about their welfare, but they can point to the gobs of cash they spend to "educate" them (which actually equates to money spent being surrogate parents; feeding, sometimes clothing and even washing them up). The caring eyes that were on them every day, and who could recognize signs of this abuse, are no longer there to be a layer of at least half-hearted support, and at a minimum a place to get them out of the house for a day. Not a fan of the blacks whatsoever, but damn, their kids don't deserve this and it's a HUGE reason why they turn out the way they do: their parents are shit.

I can only surmise that these kids, once they reach their teens, are going to have worse behavioral problems (if you can believe it) than they normally do. Which is to say, we're going to have a crime wave the likes we've not seen before, and it's gonna come sooner rather than later.

Post-vaccination deaths don’t mean the COVID-19 vaccine is deadly, experts say

When a Florida doctor died just weeks after receiving a coronavirus vaccine, his story whipped around the internet and spurred fears that the COVID-19 vaccine might have had something to do with his death. But scientists warn that these isolated cases, while tragic, do not mean the vaccines are to blame.

“These vaccines have had incredible safety profiles in the trials and post-authorization. So far, there has been nothing to confirm these awful events," said Dr. John Brownstein, an epidemiologist at Boston Children's Hospital and an ABC News contributor.

In fact, an average of 8,000 people die each day in the United States. Some of them may have just received a coronavirus vaccine.

“We have to be very careful about causality," Brownstein said. "There are going to be spurious relationships, especially as the vaccine is targeting elderly or those with chronic conditions. Just because these events happen in proximity to the vaccine does not mean the vaccine caused these events."

"Nursing home centers and hospices are of particular concern, because they are homes to incredibly frail populations," Brownstein pointed out, "and you have to look at the background rate of these events within those populations.”

Scientists say it's human nature to draw a connection between events -- especially when they happen close together -- but it doesn't mean one caused the other.

“These medical events occur every single day, including unexplained illnesses," said Dr. William Schaffner, professor of medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. "The question really is, do they occur at a greater rate in the vaccinated population than they do in the general population?”

Every time someone gets sick or dies shortly after getting a vaccine, government agencies investigate to ensure there's no link.

“The CDC, FDA, CMS and the Department of Defense are all collaborating on a series of surveillance activities for medical events that occur after vaccination," Schaffner said. "They are looking for these events, gathering and investigating them in a very systematic fashion."

"These events are taken very seriously," Schaffner said, adding that authorities conduct autopsies and also hunt for patterns, to ensure there's no association.

So far, more than 26 million people in the United States have received a dose of the vaccine for COVID-19. The CDC estimates that out of every 1 million people, two or three who receive the Moderna vaccine and around 11 who receive the Pfizer vaccine may suffer a severe allergic reaction. Some people experience side effects like fever, fatigue and a sore arm. But so far, the CDC hasn't identified a single case in which the vaccine caused a person's death.

Schaffner said that though these isolated deaths shortly after vaccination sound scary, we should all try to resist the temptation of assuming these events are related.

"We all know that the rooster crows before the dawn, but we don’t think the rooster makes the sun come up, simply because they are related in time," he said.

The fucking balls on these people.

Just because people die after getting the shot doesn't mean it's deadly, guys! People die all the time! Correlation does not equal causation!

The two masks thing is the peak of retardation. I told people a year ago IRL that if they were truly concerned about getting infected, they should be wearing (at minimum) an N95 mask, and airtight goggles. Anything less is literally just the equivalent of strapping a permanent sleeve sneeze to your face.

I don't get why gyms have been such a fucking whipping boy. How in the fuck is a place where people get healthier by exercising and lifting weights always the place that gets shut down first? My gym has a membership of like 100 people, and usually had 5-6 other people there when I went, and the place is massive and spread out. So goddamn dumb.

I work a job where I interact with the general public, and I thought the double mask thing was just a meme, until yesterday, when I served numerous people doubling masking. And like, wow, holy shit, you've gone nearly a full year single masked, and felt relatively safe the whole time, but now you feel the need to double mask? Why? If you were that afraid to begin with, why wouldn't you have started doubling up a year ago? Is this all because some guy on TV told you to? Maybe there really is something to the NPC meme

In New Jersey a gym did that, and the state fined them so much the state authorized their bank to wipe out their savings account without their consent because of the fines and the state sent people to literally try to flood them out.

I didn't even know that was possible, but I guess they can do anything technically and then draw you into a long legal battle to prove otherwise. The NJ state government demanded their bank give the state the entirety of the gym's savings account, and the bank just gave it to the state no questions asked apparently.

They don't want a healthier and stronger population. A sick, weak, and miserable population is much easier to control.

The man who was hailed by Democrats and journalists alike as the country's shadow leader during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic

Even in this article, I got through half a sentence without calling bullshit.

Even bleeding heart liberals have hated this motherfucker the entire time.
