What the fuck is even the point of this shit? The only thing I can come up with is help keep the narrative that "all republicans are bad" going. Even then, Twitter retards and people like AOC do that shit for free so what's even the fucking point.

The point is that they ratcheted up their rhetoric to the point of hyperbole, and the only way to save face afterwards is to double down and act as if there really was some kind of coup attempt lead by the president. This mostly about the rhetoric regarding riots, but it also calls into question the rhetoric about trump's administration being somehow illegal or illegitimate or liable for various problems. Calling something an attempted coup or insurrection really falls apart without charges, or (to true believers) it makes them lose faith in their officials and possibly agitate for someone even less sane to take over the democratic seat- exactly how AOC came to be. Without the follow through of a show trial, it is much easier to ask if all the BLM/antifa riots were as serious as the one in the capitol. Since republicans didn't charge dem elected officials for their statements of support for those riots, the democrats can more plausibly lie about why the republicans rioting is so much more serious than the democrats rioting.

Remember how trump had people chanting lock her up, and then immediately dropped the idea of charging clinton? It would look like that, but with people far less politically gifted than trump. So here is the trial.
