Phil's revelations about his taxes tonight confirm that he'll never be able to get himself out of financial distress. He's just fundamentally incompetent and irresponsible.
There is nothing that would have stopped him from affording the estimated payments from his tax guy.

He complained about the condo fees, but that is something he has had to carry for years, and while $400 is nothing to bawk at, he makes over $10k monthly. When asked if he could get $400 for renting out the condo, Phil said that wasn't worth it, so even he does not consider that much money. The back tax payment plan? Phil estimated it will take him 5 years, and it'll be longer if he keeps being unable to pay his taxes and throwing them on the plan. It can't be a hurdle or it will never end. There were no improvements to the business as an expense, and he specifically begged for the PS5 to be paid for an he got that 10 times over. He even had specific estimates to follow, something he previously claimed was impossible.

There's nothing. We're not waiting on debts to clear, we're not looking to get past some major expense, we're not waiting for a second soul maid to move in with a third income. There is no barrier. He just didn't fucking do it. He chose not to pay his federal taxes properly. He chose not to budget. He chose to beg and then revealed his plan is to throw it on the payment plan... so the begging wasn't sufficient anyway.

How is this not going to get him audited or something? A back tax plan was negotiated based on his income - if he suddenly wants to just throw more money on it, how does that not look like he is just using the government payment plan as a credit card?

Even if no entity with authority will hold him accountable, he'll just mire in this limbo. The paypigs better start investing - they've got a dependent that they'll be taking care of indefinitely. He doesn't know how to do anything other than be a parasite.

I wouldn't say Phil is miserable or suffering. He's comfortable, he's stable, and he's in a position where he doesn't want to take risks. But he's obviously not happy either, given how irritable, paranoid, and prone to starting arguments he is. The word I'd use is "complacent". His life could be so much more than it is, but he lacks the motivation, planning skills, and energy to do so. So he takes what he can get, never rocking the boat and never taking issue with having to do the same things over and over, day in day out. Which of course, makes it so that when things finally do change, it'll be all the more devastating.
The fact that he was willing to give the "WULL I GUESS THAT'S IT FOR THE VEST STREAK, DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD LAST FOREVER I'M HAPPY IT WENT AS LONG AS IT DID..." speech literally hundreds of times speaks volumes about his personality.

Exactly what I was going to say. He's so detached from reality he is treating the taxes on his income he is failing to pay the IRS as if it were credit card debt. He's basically asking his 'tax guy' to call and the IRS and get his 'credit limit' on unpaid taxes raised again instead of paying what he owes.
