Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

My church still has yet to reopen for in-person worship. We were making plans back in October and November, but then the "surge" happened and my pastor got cold feet. Well, over the past month or so, we've lost three members, with one passing away just the other night. None of these deaths were due to the coof. In fact, nobody in the congregation has died from the coof; several have gotten it and all have recovered, including one that I mentioned before who's had a myriad of health problems.

I decided enough was enough, and I wrote a fairly long letter to my pastor about it, dropping it off at church today. I brought up C.S. Lewis's quote about tyranny for our own good and discussed how not only does it not make sense to remain closed at this point, it's basically inhuman. I intend on talking about it with him in person this week once he's had a chance to read it, but I always find it easier to organize my thoughts in writing first. Here's hoping I can snap him out of this holding pattern we've been in for almost a year now.

I want to say that's not the case here, but at this point I'm not sure. We've been doing Zoom worship since shutting our doors, and our finances continue to do well (ending up with a surplus at the end of last year, though part of that is likely due to how little we were actually doing). We also worked out a socially-distanced communion that he does twice a week, and I know he's been making the effort to go out and visit others, bringing communion to those who haven't been able to come in person.

The problem is, I think he's let himself get too caught up with waiting for the "experts" to signal the all clear, and nobody really wants to rock the boat and tell him that this isn't really working. Zoom is a poor substitute for church services, and it fails to provide the fellowship and sense of belonging that you get not only from the service itself, but also from things like fellowship hour afterwards or our former weekly potluck suppers. I haven't seen many of the church's members in-person in almost a year, and those that I have have been merely in passing. As this has gone on, the loss of that sense of community has gotten all the more painful, and while I could never prove it, I can't help but wonder if that isolation played a part in these members' decline. The one that passed away most recently was one of the most vibrant members of the congregation despite being in her mid-90s, so the thought of her being by herself with few visitors for almost a year hurts me to think about.

I'm going to try and impress on him the point that if we continue to wait until everything's all clear again, we'll never come back at all. With the current administration more or less saying to cancel everything through the end of this year too, I know for a fact I can't wait another goddamn year to see my church family again, and I'm sure everyone else feels the same way. Let people make choices on their own health, and stop forcing them into the same mold.

this is it:
thanks for the tip, enjoyed watching it

In references to the recent posts about some churches not having in-person services, today's gospel for my parish was about Jesus healing the leper after he physically touched him. It got me thinking about St. Damien of Molokai and how he served a leper colony in Hawaii knowing about the disease, which he would contract later in his life. It is such a shame the story of this man (and the gospel reading) is not being told to quell the fear.

Study: UK Coronavirus Variant Is “Likely” Deadlier

If it goes global, we could be in big trouble.

British scientists have uncovered a grim finding: the B.1.1.7 variant of the coronavirus, known colloquially as the “UK variant,” is one of the deadliest strains yet.
Sure, I believe you.

The channel "HipHopPublicHealth" has these vids up too, and the comments are disabled and the Like/Dislike ratios are unavailable.

Seems they don't want to see the backlash from the very community they're purporting to serve.
That is extraordinarily patronizing. I hope all black people who see that are offeneded how at how cheap and childish it is. "Get vaccinated and we go back to normal!" Just outright lying in the lyrics, too. Vaccine or no they are not going to stop this for several more years yet.

I empathize with you. It seems to me that all the churches in my area that willingly comply with the government's banning of all 'in-person religious services' are guilty of changing their faith to align it with the ways of the world, rather than changing the world to make it align with their faith. In this way, the age of corona has been very illuminating. There aren't nearly as many Christian churches in the area than I would've thought. Jesus would have some very strong words for those who shut down their churches in compliance with government edicts. I never thought I would live in a country where believers would have to congregate in illegal house churches, like they do in China, but here we are. At least there are lawsuits in progress that seek to overturn the government's clearly unconstitutional mass human rights violations.

He looks like Skeletor. It looks like the mask is actually holding his jaw on.

Dont insult the bone master like that, prick.

Tho Trump does look like Prince Adam a tiny bit if he was way older and fatter soo....Meh?
So there's a theory doing the rounds regarding the mRNA vaccines.

It's the "I Am Legend" scenario.

We know that the mRNA vaccines don't trigger a natural immunity, i.e. you do not produce antibodies to Covid-19, you instead produce antibodies to a specific protein that is also present in Covid-19, an important distinction.

For individuals who receive their shots, this becomes a permanent feature of their immune system.

We know from the limited trials and the vaccinations among the population that Covid-19 does not trigger an ADE response when subjects are exposed to the infection. That;s the good news.

The bad news is we don't know if other Coronaviruses will trigger an ADE response.

There are thousands of Coronaviruses endemic in mammals. Will the next zoonotic virus to come out of East Asia be the one? Not likely.

But what if hostile powers start work to engineer a virus that will trigger this response and release it?

The Chinese and Russians have developed their own vaccines to Covid and are not using the western vaccines. Are the Chinese big enough shit bags to release a virus that they know will leave their own population unaffected but kill their enemies by the hundreds of millions?

The likelihood that state actors are working on this are 100%, the chances that they will find or engineer a virus that will be the one, are pretty fucking good.

To be fair, I think we could use some vampire-zombies (depending on what version of the story we are talking about) to bring some actual dangerous to the sheltered sheep. Im sure some of them would hug the vampires and want to "donate blood" so they can be seen as good.
Also we need to remind the common npcs that science can, and most likely will, backfire when in the wrong hands and mishandled.

The Chinese are determined not to have any of their people injected with the western mRNA vaccines.....because reasons. Either they don't think it's safe, China Numba 1, or they have plans for the future that depends on their population not being injected with this stuff.

The Chinese arent stupid. Im not saying that this is done to keep their people safe but it shows the commies would rather poison their people with their own poison than some foreign one. Its not BETTER but it at least shows more "integrity" than other leaders just telling their sheeps to inject themselves with juices from some foreign country made by strangers that may or may not have the best of intentions.

This shit is so emotionally manipulating....

All you gotta say to change people's perspectives is to say they are all neo-nazis or Trump supporters (its not like they see any difference) and suddenly they "deserve" to die.

It kind of reminds me of those "scaaaary" images you find in the back of cigarrete packs thinking it will change anything. Sure, keep pretending you are doing a difference...at least that way the plebs cant claim otherwise.
