Gaming journos actually praising sexualization of a female video game character. It's a rare sight for sure.

I always assumed it actually was just a mistranslation that stuck. That same way people still fight over whether the character is named Aerith or Aeris.I didn't notice this pun until it was brought up just now somehow despite knowing about porygon for porygon's entire fucking existence but his name is literally just polygon with an r in typical l/r mixup fashion.
It’s making fun of the way Japanese people can’t distinguish between L and R.Why is porygon bad? Is that some weird racial slur i never heard of?
I recall there was some controversy because of "oh no, white guy killing africans!" Yet almost everyone laughed it off and dismissed the concerns.
Crazy to think that was a little over a decade ago.
"YOU WILL BE CULTURALLY ENRICHED AND YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!"
You know a proper sequel to Postal is out right now? Featuring Jon St Jon.Postal 2. Enough said.
Honestly, the bigger deal maker or breaker would have to be how they'd handle it. If the story treats Turok as but an afterthought, never acknowledged his existence, or his sacrifices, fuck the story. Some bad examples would have to be Ghostbusters 2016 (was it really that hard to put in a passing of the torch from Venkman and friends) and Wolfenstein III: The shitty reboot trilogy sequel that got aborted before release (how about a time travel plot, if you want to be real, you'd acknowledge reality for what it is than retreat into some shithole that is actually worse but whatever). I haven't even gotten to Turok 3, but you know, his wife and child taking up the cause is absolutely fine by me.Goldeneye or any movie tie in that's actually good.
Wrestlemania 2000 or any other wrestling game that's actually good.
Turok.

Nothing in the game was objectionable, and that's the problem. If it was made today, you know it'd have to have a bunch of modern political bullshit in it, or else woke Twitter would try to cancel it for being culturally insensitive. I didn't even know the main character was "native american" until recent years where it became "problematic" to have a native american main character who wasn't a Johnny-Depp-from-The-Lone-Ranger walking stereotype.
On the other side of the same coin. Turok 3 unceremoniously killed off the main character in the intro so a new female character and a child we had never heard of before could take his place. Again, nothing objectionable about that at the time, but can you imagine the shitstorm if they did that today? The game would be boycotted as woke pandering and pissing on the legacy of the character.
Fuck imagination and suspension of disbelief, ego humanocentric science faith must dictate all by the fedoralords and those who are "keeping it real". Even better yet, even if you try to explain it, they'll say "why so srs bro". I'm beginning to see why putting pedantic jackasses into place by physical humiliation was so tempting in the first place.Sex appeal or anything that is physically impractical. It honestly did not occur to me how common women dressed as dominatrices (see Ivy from Soul Calibur) were. You do that now, you're expected to give an explanation. Look what they did to the Dark Queen in the Battletoads reboot.
Make that seven hundred kids and also demanded that anime studios stop using light backing table lighting, leading into today's shitty droll CGI/photoshop lighting and overt pastel coloring.Porygon is not verboten because of the name. It's because of an incident that occurred when the anime first started airing where the episode introducing Porygon gave 700 people epileptic seizures because the animators were fucking retards and decided to have a couple of scenes where the entire screen strobed red and blue. Nintendo got pissed and fucking nuked that shit.
Rimworld also has slavery. Think the main reason these two games get away with it is how unappealing they are to the kind of people who would be outraged.Kenshi has slavery. Hell, Kenshi has a cult-like religious faction that can and will enslave you for being the wrong race. Don't get me started on what happens if you picked to play as aniggerSkeleton. You'll mine away in a stone quarry for the sin of not being a human and/or not worshiping the Holy Flame of Okran. If you're a woman at an outpost, don't even think of initiating prayer day with the traveling preacher either. Women that speak out of turn will be punished.
Being a slave isn't actually so bad in the game. Your masters keep you alive and your enslaved characters work up various skills over time. It's basically free and safe training. Escaping isn't hard either.
It almost certainly is. Its name is just the Japanese word for polygon. It's like how Gradius is actually gladius, which is a type of sword, but the mistranslation sounds like a cool word and is more memorable than a generic word. A Pokemon named "polygon" is just stupid, whereas "porygon" sounds like a pun or something even though it isn't.I always assumed it actually was just a mistranslation that stuck. That same way people still fight over whether the character is named Aerith or Aeris.
If we're also talking a lot about Yakuza, I'd like to mention the awkward Yakuza 0 'How to Train your Dominatrix' side story. Even if it was released only in 2015, that'd get a lot of shit now. The SJWs probably wouldn't like how Kiryu has to teach her to cater to sexual deviants despite her discomfort.
What's even worse is the part where Kiryu and the woman are training in an open park setting, and a bunch of children walk up to them and you're supposed to make it part of her lesson.View attachment 1938633
There actually was some wokie outrage concerning Rimworld iirc. It was about the relation mechanics, specifically the way the game handled attraction. Someone dug through the game files and discovered that male pawns were programmed to only consider women under a certain age or some shit, and that that wasn't the case the other way around. Tumblr then got salty at how accurately this game depicted human sexual selection.Rimworld also has slavery. Think the main reason these two games get away with it is how unappealing they are to the kind of people who would be outraged.
Rule of Rose is a perfect example of why it's not about the surface level things, it's about how you do it, no one cares if you make a game centered around female characters or female centric themes, but it still has to be interesting and done well, Rule of Rose deals with female themes in a way more honest and thought provoking than what you would see from the west today.also Rule of Rose... probably the only game about how toxic female dominated communities can be.
The game was already controversial back in the day because game journalists completely missed the point about things like this:
Resident Evil 8 gives me some Haunting Ground vibes, but of course you're playing as a guy.Haunting Ground as a whole. A busty 18-year-old girl with absurd jiggle physics and skimpy clothes getting chased around by crazy people - a couple of whom she’s related to - with major themes of rape and sexual abuse? Yeah, not a chance.
SJW types actually love Yakuza 0 and have never raised a fuss about this side story that I've seen.If we're also talking a lot about Yakuza, I'd like to mention the awkward Yakuza 0 'How to Train your Dominatrix' side story. Even if it was released only in 2015, that'd get a lot of shit now. The SJWs probably wouldn't like how Kiryu has to teach her to cater to sexual deviants despite her discomfort.
