I hope someone shows up in that thread and says, "I'm a 38 year old mother of three. All my life, I've been training to be the best I could be at track cycling. Then one day, this doughy, out of shape hulking male ogre showed up calling himself a woman, and for some reason I'll never understand, people were OK with letting him compete against women in my first competition. He showed up in Spandex with a visible gut, and his chin was like Jay Leno's or Bruce Campbell's. Anyway, after decades of training, I went out and thought, "Well this isn't fair at all, but I'll give it my best!"

I came in 4th. He took one of the spots on the podium instead of me. And then did it again. And again, and again... and then I just gave up. I haven't been on a bike since. He crushed my dreams, and when I raised the thought that just maybe this wasn't a fair situation, he called me a bigot! And then he found a bunch of other, equally male people who pretend to be women to gang up on me and send me death threats and rape threats for just saying what was true. Now I don't interact with anyone any more, and I wish I had never taken up cycling in the first place."

And just to drive home the fact that he's cheating, he sticks his tongue out at the other competitors at the start of the race. He says it's to "lighten the mood" but he does that to just rub in the fact that he' getting away with what he's doing.

Given that none of those women slapped his smug face or quit in protest at that, they are much better people than I.

Because Rhys is a zealot as well as an idiot it's always hard to tell whether he's arguing in bad faith or just being plain stupid.
Let's accept his position is that it is fair for him to compete against women because some women share Rhys's physical characteristics.
If fairness is predicated on similarity of physical characteristics, then greater similarity of physical characteristics contributes to greater fairness.
But the physical characteristics of men and women differ significantly on the average as a group.
Therefore a mixed group of men and women will have greater variability of physical characteristics than a group of only men or women.
The greater variability in physical characteristics makes competitions between men and women less fair than competition between only men or women.
By extension that makes the competition between Rhys and women less fair.
But that leads us into contradiction, since Rhys's position is that competing against women is fair.

One way to avoid the contradiction is to say that there is fundamentally no difference in physical characteristics between men and women at all. And sure enough that's what Rhys has increasingly been saying. But that line of reasoning works both ways. Because if there really is no difference, then why do trans people undergo years of mental and physical therapy to transition? Why all the dysphoria? Why transition at all when it's all the same anyway? More to the point, why compete against women? If there's really no difference, then why not compete against men?
