Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Politicians have really shat their pants with the response to this shit and instead of letting people go back to normal, they are not backing down.

Of course, people are going to cry that it's not fair. What exactly did you expect? We're approaching a year of this.
I full heartedly agree politicians are shitting their pants I watched many world leaders talk about this covid shit and the one thing I can say for certain is none of them have a clue on what to do about it so they are throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. They all seem to have a concerned look on their face which is slightly disconcerning.

A common seintment among people I've spoken to is that most people are tired of these restrictions and more people in my personal life are smelling the coffee in some ways. I can say that hopefully by the spring most people will start rejecting this bullshit in more brute force as the numbers start to trickle down. Ironically because of those CDC testing criteria changing back last month. Though for now that is only a pipe dream, now excuse me while I eat my bugs.

When is eventually? It looks like the goalposts are on a truck bed [...]

All of this is a blatant power grab. Most places might graciously return some of your freedoms to you, but not all. So goes incrementalism.

This right here is why I believe this spring and summer will be an interesting time from a social unrest perspective. Everyone sincerely expecting all the lockdown shit to end this year is in for a rude awakening: mask mandates are going to remain, vocal fear mongers will keep opportunistic politicians engaging in authoritarian measures to both retain their jobs and stroke their own egos, and the pharmaceutical industry isn't going to easily let go of the biggest cash cow of the century.

The Wuflu reaction has turned into veritable monster, and no matter how much some of its proponents may wish to start walking it back - e.g. the Biden administration - you already see how incredibly difficult that is thanks to moving timeline goalposts and organized resistance to restriction lifting (see teachers unions). Some in charge may consider it easier just keeping restrictions in place and kicking the can down the road (lol short-term voter memory), but as the Netherlands riots and mass protests in places like Denmark show, refusing to ease up - or god forbid reinstating lockdowns - could be enough to light a fuse. After all, barely need 15-30% of the population resorting to Minecraft in real life to upset the established political order.

And that's before even considering oncoming economic pain train. Many lockdown proponents conveniently forget a lot of people are subsisting on government handouts in place of jobs right now and (at least in the US) living in apartments/houses they're not paying rent for. Biden's first big test for example isn't that $1.9T stimulus bill, it's renewing the CDC eviction moratorium up in March - and there's no way in hell any Democrat wants to suddenly explain why they're the ones letting unemployed single black mothers get kicked onto the street (but cannot piss up all those commercial donors either, oh tough days). Particularly if it devolves into fiery yet peaceful demonstrations that require heavy-handed police presence.

Moreover the lack of jobs to return to (remember the 2008 jobless "recovery"?) and the precedence of sustained free money for all means many will be clamoring for perpetual support just in time for elections; I absolutely guarantee universal basic income will be the next hot button issue, and that it won't be cooler heads prevailing this time in that debate.

TL;DR? 2020 was just the opening act. The covid fun has only gotten started.

It's not okay to kill grandma, but letting grandpa die alone is just fine to save yourself from the big bad coof:

Don't blame covid, bugman, it's yourself you should be hating.

Fire department is here to transport another resident to the ER. I think that brings the tally up to 6 residents (that I know of, it is a big building) hospitalized, one death. Maybe these are all "coincidences" but this is a building for medically stable residents. I have never heard or seen anything like this and have been here for 4 months. Please family don't get the Moderna vaccine at the least. Maybe the Astra-Zenica one is better, but this mRNA tech seems dicey in older patients at the least. I am leaving here in a week and am glad, this is weighing on me. Thanks for listening and being welcoming fellow farmers. :heart-full:

btw hospitce and nursery home are actually big vector themself. Placing all the sick one in the same building may be convenient until flu is inside and everyone get anyway

The latest bullshit from the county I live in. Clueless County, in the state of Insanity. Jesus....

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE CARMEL PINE CONE

February 23, 2021, 12:30 p.m.

COUNTY MOVES CLOSER TO RED TIER (In their dreams. - JS)

This morning the California Department of Public Health lowered Monterey County's scorecard for new coronavirus infections per day per 100,000 residents to 18.4, bringing it ever closer to the 7.0 required for the county to move into the Red Tier of the governor's economic shutdown scheme — which would allow indoor dining to resume and many types of businesses, including museums, movie theaters and gyms, to reopen.

This chart illustrates the county's rapid progress toward the Red Tier. At the beginning of February, Monterey County's official case rate was 52.4, nearly three times what it is today.

The state's 18.4 score for Monterey County is based on cases for the week ending Feb. 13 — a week when the county had 809 coronavirus infections, according to health department data. For the week ending today, the county recorded just 436 cases, which means the state's scorecard will continue to move downward. See the charts and tables below for more information about how the epidemic has been progressing in your community. (Nothing there. Anyway, everyone in my community, including me, is dead. Like I give a flying fuck. - JS)

Tempering the good news is the fact that Monterey County still lags in getting its people vaccinated. According to the CDPH, 60,076 doses of coronavirus vaccine have now been administered to Monterey County residents, which comes to about 14,000 per 100,000 county residents. For California, that number is 19,500, and nationwide, 19,600 doses have been administered per 100,000 Americans. (No fucking excuse whatsoever. Useless, overpaid turds in "county government". - JS)

Please remember that if you're eligible you can try to make an appointment for a vaccination in Monterey County by checking these websites: mcvaccinate.com, offered by the county health department, and www.chomp.org/vaccine, which is the site for clinics operated by Community Hospital. You may also be able to schedule a vaccination at cvs.com or at riteaid.com. (You'll have better luck scheduling a time to bite my crank, if you are an attractive woman. - JS)

How do I convince my mother not to take the vaccine? She's over 65, but otherwise has no risk factors for any infectious disease as she's in good physical health (isn't overweight, no history of heart problems, etc.). She says she's going to get the vaccine as soon as she's able but I don't want her to because it's not worth the risk.

Keep checking if she's got her will put together. If she's planning on how probate will be handled. Where the important documents are.

Animals have started acting weird lately, and I have to think that masks and people staying inside so much has altered their behavior. They're much more aggressive towards hikers and joggers and there are way more predatory animals coming into the city and suburbs.
There are also ideas that with people fleeing the cities and staying inside, people are throwing away less food waste, and so animals have less to eat in the cities. I also wouldn't be surprised if it was the case that animals don't recognize people or care less with their masks on.

If those feral BASTARDS try to piss on the car cover again, I swear I'm gonna set up an entire lawn sprinkler full of ethylene glycol

Fun tip: Antifreeze/Coolant has long been relatively useless for animal control due to ALL commercial manufacturers adding embittering agents since the golden age of the 90's. However, you can buy straight ethylene glycol as a reagent from chemical supply labs, and while it's a little pricey, it's also highly effective! The neighbor's dogs have been pretty aggressive lately too... hmm

Poisoned my neighbour's pitbull with a sausage filled with rat poison. Watched him barfing blood and grey stuff while smoking a good monte cristo. Tough motherfucker, he didn't even die and got up on his paws, had to strangle him through the fence with a phone cable. He was an aggressive cunt, aways barking at people for no reason. Not that my poofta neighbour learned the lesson, now he's got a fucking dobermann.

Hey who gives a shit, another retarded dog, another poisoned sausage. This time i'm getting the dose right.

With my family, it has been a problem. My sister's luckily are crazy republican/Trumpers who already believe the vaccines are poison. I shared my experience and warned them based on what I have recently seen first-hand.
The rest of my family are the type who will only believe what their trusted local news tells them. With them, I explained and sent them links to some of the very articles from this lovely thread which challenge the narrative.
The best any of us can do is use actual experts and studies that they claim to trust so much to try to sway their opinion. At the end of the day, this is a decision that all of us have to weigh the pro's and con's and decide for ourselves.
With your family, if you do the best you can and they decide not to listen ... You did all you can do. The odds are still good that they will have minimal after effects. I really hope all goes well and wish you luck.

Huh, I wonder if these intrepid redditors ever considered wearing a mask? I hear it's very effective and prevents the spread of COVID.

the flu is not as transmissible you dolt.
the argument always felt fishy. If I remember well flu in the majority of time, is diagnosed via symptom. The CCR test only came when coroavirus became an epidemic.
They're like many question that you mediasucker never ask because you trust blindly the scienceTM (never mind that proper deep research may have never happened)
Like do the PCR can really distinguish influenza virus with the current corona virus?
Do it distinguish current year coronavirus with it more common counterpart?
How do we really know if every year influenza is the dominent virus rather than a coronavirus or rhinovirus if the majority of diagnose are just symptomatic?
Coronavirus was found as early as sept 2019 in italy way before the pandemic started in wuhan if it dosen't raise red flag already...

From a city subreddit in my province. This is what a year of fear propaganda will do to you, folks. Don't let this guy become you
This cuck is definitely from Toronto, I want to say Liberty Village area.

I find it funny that despite @clusterfuckk , @SmokingPig , @Just wandering , @PaleTay , and a bunch of other regular thread posters being Canadians who are anti-lockdown, all it takes is one retard shitting up the thread while claiming to be Canadian as a trollshield to turn the thread into full "Fuck Canada" mode :story:
Disheveled Human is embarrassing me as a Canadian. Mind you right now 70% of the Canadian population is embarrassing me so take that as you will.

@Null can we get our angry stickers back?
