From what I understand, it's an image that has been widely circulated for years as a warning to parents on how easily a toddler can climb up a ladder and possibly drown. It was probably noticed or recognized due to that.

Additionally, the image was not "referenced" it was traced, right down to the creases on the diaper. While it might seem a minute in comparison to the grand scheme of it all, Sophie zooming in on a child's diaper to trace the creases is extra sickening to me.
