The podcast can be pretty funny at times, you can even like it and not agree with some of the commie stuff IMO. Same with Matt Christman. His vlogs are long, rambling and absurd, but I think that there are moments of humor (sometimes at his expense, sometimes genuine) and the whole "grillpill" idea is a decent attempt at trying to escape the toxicity of social media and lefty cancel-culture bullshit. It is however, doomed to fail if your entire interaction with it is following a podcast or a subreddit instead of taking the idea to heart and getting a fucking life outside of extremist lefty internet bubbles.

"Virgil Texas"(totally legit name) is a Brooklyn based douchebag and leading member of Chapotraphouse instrumental in it's rise, along with other fruitless projects. Chapo had previously received coverage in the past, but it wasn't until Virgil joined the show that things quickly accelerated despite his total lack of personality. They have easily one of the most positive wikipedia articles I've ever seen, even the "controversy" section is missing significant parts and still covers Chapo in the most positive light, unlike any right wing e-celeb or podcast I've seen. The reality is, Chapo is promoted as an alternative for "hip" teenagers and millennials who oppose the mainstream, in reality it's just an edgier version. I would like to point out in total this guy is making at least 36k(172k/5+4k/2), yet had one of the worst mics i've ever heard, blue tooth yetis sound better it's almost unlistenable(only upgrading last December).Somehow in the past two months Chapo has gone from 160k per month to 173k per month on patreon, an almost 10% increase.
The reality is, Chapo makes over 172k(yes really) per month from their patreon, and that really has to make you ask where is all that money coming from? I've yet to meet a singe person who likes chapo, including the dozens of leftists I've spoken with.




Virgil's past
In the past Virgil has (seemingly) participated in quite a bit of media, but he seemingly appeared out of nowhere at one point around Gamergate. Virgil started being one of the main people promoting Gawker online, along with nazi doxxxxer "@a_girl_irl"(a guy) being at the very front and center as early as 2014. Interestingly enough, he actually opened for Sam Hyde in 2014. He's worked for Gawker as a "freelance social media brand agent" for almost a decade and he use to work at the Onion. Conveniently, AV club a website on the Gawker network along with the Onion, wrote another fluff piece on Chapo(well oddly not interviewing Virgil despite him being on the crew at the time). Even lolbert outlet Reason.com called out the fact that Chapo was sperging over Peter Thiel(rightfully) suing Gawker, and got them to admit that if a left winger was doing the same they wouldn't have an issue with it. Rather incestuous, protecting your employers like that.
The media coverage for chapo has been almost universally positive, even Vice, Bloomberg and New York Times or even the far left Jacobin have created these absolutely ridiculous fluff pieces about how Chapo is the future or the leaders of the left, doesn't it make anybody question why they have such universal praise? Part of the reason for this is Chapo brigades anybody voicing dissident. Even HuffPO gets him to narrate videos sometimes. The only pieces you'll find going after Chapo complain that they're "rude and toxic", with no meaningful criticisms. Occasionally he appears to get his dicksucked on third rate shows like The Young Turks.
In 2015 Virgil himself has even published articles in Vice about "trolling nazi facebook groups".
However, Virgil's linkedin is full of bullshit jobs and even what's listed here should be questioned.

MUSIC FESTIVAL
I nearly had the worst experience of my life at the C_______ music festival last year. I plopped down a hundred twenty-five bucks for an all-access pass to what I thought would be a weeklong smorgasbord of nonstop music and sound. When I arrived just about the only music I heard was the percussive knock-knock-knock of my Kia Sorento's busted engine as I idled around the parking lot, which was full of not bands or songstresses but a bunch of chitchats milling about. I waited an hour to get my wrist braceleted by the security guard who, you guessed it, wasn't singing a tune so much as grumbling and shouting at me and my fellow paying customers.
On the festival grounds, I found overpriced concessions, tawdry souvenirs, and massive crowds of young folks taking selfie photographs, but NO MUSIC! Excuse me, but I thought a music festival would have music, for the love of criminy! Hadn't the organizers planned for this, or had they blown their music budget on glitzy advertisements and extravagant perfumes? My goodness, I must have worn out my shoe leather walking around for hours in the vain search of a tune. Yet nary a musical instrument or a cappella singer could be found.
This was supposed to be a music festival, folks! So where the heck was the music? Was it in some VIP area that only the daughters of coal magnates and app inventors could afford to enter? Just my luck that a working class rube like me would get stuck with a stinking $125 piece of jewelry that couldn't even get him into a lullaby.
By sundown I was sweaty and exhausted from searching high and low for the music. That evening I found a stream near the festival grounds where some millennials were silently bathing. I sat beside the water to mourn my failures when the gully's gentle ripples at last gave me the melody I had been yearning for. I started composing the most beautiful song in my head. I imagined intricate and inventive arrangements of bassists and harpists, trumpeters and tromboners, even a cannoneer firing a cast-iron Civil War artillery! The field of my imagination expanded like a balloon and my mental orchestra grew bigger and bigger as I invented church choirs and garage bands, Gregorian chanters and jazz funerals, dubstep DJs and tribal drummers, thousands and thousands of skilled musicians playing every instrument one could conceive, all of them crafting gorgeous sounds that swirled together in perfect harmony.

I must zoned out in my aural reverie, because when that band in my head finished its last encore, it was the break of dawn. Even though I hadn't slept, I was full of vigor, my mind still under the enchantment of the greatest concert I had ever heard. I went back to my car and drove home, all the while humming a few bars from my stream song and thinking myself blessed to live in a world where music and poetry can still be found in the most unlikely of places.

You're probably wondering where that inspiring stream is. Well, I'm afraid I can't tell you. You're just going to have to go out and find your own stream. Because, as I later learned, the one I went to is extremely polluted, and the kids growing up next to it are coming up extra-retarded.

Closing thoughts
It's very apparent to me that Virgil's involvement in the Chapo project was key to it's success, from the amount of media, interviews and shows he's on is rather impressive. It's also pretty notable the one time he isn't presence is under an outlet that was owned by the umbrella company, Gawker, which he was employed by. The fact he has connections to the former Bernie press secretary speaks to his ability to network. Sadly, Virgil is a drug ridden, salty post modern husk filled with nothing but soyboy rage, Although being slightly witty on occasion, his totally dry delivery and consistent bitching leaving him doomed to the pits of irrelevancy. It's hilarious that he can barely get 30k subs with the former Bernie press secretary and can barely pull in as many views as he has patrons. This guy is astroturfed as fuck by his rich friends in the media and although I'm sure Chapo has a pretty large following, thats with maximum mainstream positive exposure and the "system" they claim to rebel against being on their side. I have NO clue why this guy opened for Sam Hyde because he's always been a hardcore commie nut.
Like all good stories it leads back to the 9/11 of the internet, Gamergate.

It's very apparent to me that Virgil's involvement in the Chapo project was key to it's success, from the amount of media, interviews and shows he's on is rather impressive. It's also pretty notable the one time he isn't presence is under an outlet that was owned by the umbrella company, Gawker, which he was employed by. The fact he has connections to the former Bernie press secretary speaks to his ability to network. Sadly, Virgil is a drug ridden, salty post modern husk filled with nothing but soyboy rage, Although being slightly witty on occasion, his totally dry delivery and consistent bitching leaving him doomed to the pits of irrelevancy. It's hilarious that he can barely get 30k subs with the former Bernie press secretary and can barely pull in as many views as he has patrons. "Virgil Texas"(totally legit name) is a Brooklyn based douchebag and leading member of Chapotraphouse instrumental in it's rise, along with other fruitless projects. Chapo had previously received coverage in the past, but it wasn't until Virgil joined the show that things quickly accelerated despite his total lack of personality. They have easily one of the most positive wikipedia articles I've ever seen, even the "controversy" section is missing significant parts and still covers Chapo in the most positive light, unlike any right wing e-celeb or podcast I've seen. The reality is, Chapo is promoted as an alternative for "hip" teenagers and millennials who oppose the mainstream, in reality it's just an edgier version. I would like to point out in total this guy is making at least 36k(172k/5+4k/2), yet had one of the worst mics i've ever heard, blue tooth yetis sound better it's almost unlistenable(only upgrading last December).Somehow in the past two months Chapo has gone from 160k per month to 173k per month on patreon, an almost 10% increase.
The reality is, Chapo makes over 172k(yes really) per month from their patreon, and that really has to make you ask where is all that money coming from? I've yet to meet a singe person who likes chapo, including the dozens of leftists I've spoken with.

In the past Virgil has (seemingly) participated in quite a bit of media, but he seemingly appeared out of nowhere at one point around Gamergate. Virgil started being one of the main people promoting Gawker online, along with nazi doxxxxer "@a_girl_irl"(a guy) being at the very front and center as early as 2014. Interestingly enough, he actually opened for Sam Hyde in 2014. He's worked for Gawker as a "freelance social media brand agent" for almost a decade and he use to work at the Onion. Conveniently, AV club a website on the Gawker network along with the Onion, wrote another fluff piece on Chapo(well oddly not interviewing Virgil despite him being on the crew at the time). Even lolbert outlet Reason.com called out the fact that Chapo was sperging over Peter Thiel(rightfully) suing Gawker, and got them to admit that if a left winger was doing the same they wouldn't have an issue with it. Rather incestuous, protecting your employers like that.
The media coverage for chapo has been almost universally positive, even Vice, Bloomberg and New York Times or even the far left Jacobin have created these absolutely ridiculous fluff pieces about how Chapo is the future or the leaders of the left, doesn't it make anybody question why they have such universal praise? Part of the reason for this is Chapo brigades anybody voicing dissident. Even HuffPO gets him to narrate videos sometimes. The only pieces you'll find going after Chapo complain that they're "rude and toxic", with no meaningful criticisms. Occasionally he appears to get his dicksucked on third rate shows like The Young Turks.
