I can see clear parallels between what Marions parents did to her and what Sophie wants to do or more likely has done, as well as the what the general troon movement wants to do. Amen, I was mortified by the book but couldn't put it down. For those who haven't read it, here are some more details on Moira's father, Walter Breen, from the book:

Nothing done in the pursuit of this goal can be wrong. Anyone who slaps the LGBTQ label on themselves is a certified Good Person, even if they happen to be on the sex offender registry, and trying to keep them away from children is a homophobic hate crime. The Berkeley people called anyone who criticized them a Nazi just like Billy's supporters are doing now.

My impression of the 60s growing up was that it was just a bunch of peace-loving hippies protesting the Vietnam war; I had no idea how much sickness was hidden in that counterculture that got swept under the rug. Now it's risen again in another form.

I suspect that we're actually seeing grooming/gaslighting in action here rather than just hugboxing.

Labelle has comment approval switched on for the Facebook page, and has restricted Twitter. All you'll see on those pages is claims of a smear campaign and exclusively supportive comments, along with the assertion that sales have never been better (we don't know that - all we have is Labelle's word for that).

So if you're in the social justice world and feel a bit dubious, you might go to the page to check it out. And your response will be "Gosh, Sophie is saying she's a victim and lots of my compatriots are backing her and giving her money. This must have been a Neo Nazi smear campaign because she works with trans youth, or else people would be calling her out. I guess I'll support her book! Stay strong sister!".

It remains to be seen if the response in spheres outside of Labelle's control will be enough to shift the balance, but this might end up being a successful grift.

Yet people still make the argument that these policies must be embraced, because "no actual trans person would willingly exploit them" and (for example) men masquerading as women in order to reach and abuse actual women and minorities is a non-issue. I don't know about a specific term, but this is literally what the protagonist of 1984 does as a job. He deletes things from the historical record that the Party doesn't find convenient anymore, thus shaping reality however it sees fit. It almost angers me to see lefty retards wearing "Make Orwell Fiction Again" hats because what they're doing with everyone to the right of Mao is exactly what Orwell was warning against.

i will go one further. "having" a gender individually/"gender identity" doesn't exist (you can make them up, but it's of no consequence). gender is put upon you by society based entirely on your sex or perceived sex, and the collection of traits expected of men and women or both changed over time or place. you can choose to accept or reject the roles society chooses for you, or completely go on autopilot. most people have a mixture of accepting and rejecting it, but that does not change their manhood or womanhood (literally just meaning adult human male or female respectively, with any possible personality traits).

Exactly this - women (and gender critical men like Linehan) will get suspended for anything, while all these vile porn accounts stay up as long as they either are troons or on "the right side" (the password is Trans Women Are Women).
