Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

What all of the non-Japan regions have in common is that they are based on popular tourist destinations for Japanese people(Various designers from Gamefreak even have two week vactations at those locations for ideas). Looking at a list of most visited destinations for Japanese tourists in 2019 (2020 fucked with the charts for tourist flow due to various levels of lockdown) would probably be the safest bet to guessing what the next region is based on.

Excuse me? Are we ignoring Iris and Lenora? Or even the most recent character Peony?
Dropping a couple tokens into B/W to point out that where you're at is the US or UK is one thing, making a whole region based on Africa isn't going to happen. Favorite thing about Pokemon Black will always be one of the Sports Dome trainers was a black basketball player who used a Bouffalant. It was amazing.

My point is that if they were racist, they wouldn't have made black characters in the first place (much less ones as story significant as Iris and Peony). It's not like Japan cares that much about public opinion outside of it's home country.

I wouldn't completely rule out an Africa inspired region. Although, I won't deny that there are more interesting places in the world to go for.

Is there even a place in Africa right now politically/publicly stable enough for the design team to stay for two weeks? Or even WANT to go to?

First step is what would be the most likely candidate for the next mainline generation to be based on?
We've had:
Gen 1 - 4: Japan
Gen 5: New York/Eastern US
Gen 6: France
Gen 7: Hawaii
Gen 8: United Kingdom

My best guesses would be Canada, Mainland EU (Can't decide between Germany, Italy, or Spain), and a wild card of Russia.
Anyplace from Central or South America I think would be really cool, especially when it comes to the region's lore. A rain forest route/dungeon could look gorgeous if done right.

Just as long as it isn't Europe as between Galar and Kalos they keep fucking it up

Did somebody order some statistics?

This chart is a list of places where Japanese people want to go to, not quite where they actually have been, but it's good enough for our purposes - arguably better, as it doesn't take pricing into account. it's more than 100% because people can be interested in multiple places.

That's not the whole list, just every place with more than 10% of the population. The notable parts are:
  • All four non-japan regions are in the top 6 locations they want to be, which supports Dunsparce's theory. The exceptions are Italy and Australia (yesssssss).
  • The remainder of the top ten, and everything with more than 15% interest, is Germany, Guam, Taiwan and West Coast USA. We might get some unironically based regions eventually.
  • Canada barely makes it over 10%.
  • The chart doesn't list a single location in Africa.

Are Iris and Peony even black? I always thought they were the Pokemon world equivalent of Indian. Same with Raihan and Rose,

I don't get the chibi hate. Its a cute throwback to the games of old.
As someone who’s okay with the chibi style, I see three camps
- People who just wanted SwSh style but with better textures
- People who feel that the cool scenes in Sinnoh will be downplayed by the chibi graphics
- People who think the proportions are too far off, mostly regarding the hands.

Well, /vp/ has become a hellhole for TCG players now. Some moron has latched himself onto smpratte’s Pokemon TCG videos and is trying to fix the the Shiny Magikarp card market by buying up shitty target promos.

...now that I think about it he’s something of a Pokemon lolcow, nobody there wants him in their threads and he regularly has to sockpuppet his own thread.
Or in TCG for that matter.

My cards can put a kid through college but they can't beat a basic form printed last year. *sigh*

I saw a Dark Raichu deck that I want to try though. It looked like it might be competitive against newer decks what with blowing up your opponent's bench and all that. The newer cards are nuts though. They have more health and do more damage with less energy required. Can't compete with that.
It’s also worth noting that the TCG occasionally has cards that can prevent attacks from damaging Benched Pokemon.

As a frequenter of the VTuber thread I love that Taiwan makes the list and mainland China doesn't.
Get fucked bugmen.

I fall into that 3rd camp mainly. I would've loved an improved SwSh style graphics game in Sinnoh, but I'm not disappointed in the chibi/authentic to form style.
I just don't like the feet and hand proportions being so out of whack, it's very weird, but it's something I can live with because it still keeps a lot of the original personality.

It's pretty good. Drops their defense by 2, leaving them open to an especially painful sucker punch.
I hate this fucking fursuit, yet I hunted a shiny one before Isle of Armor because the colors remind me of Porygon. I like how the original Linoone still has the niche of Belly Drum and Extreme Speed.

South American jungle theme when? I wanna explore ancient ruins and lush, dense jungles. Such a biologically diverse setting should lend itself well to the creation of new, unique designs. Personally I'd like to see a river dolphin, peacock, and more carnivorous plants. You could throw in some mew lore for the gen-1 fans too.

Runner-up choices would be Aus and Africa.

Australia's popular with Japanese tourists because it's relatively close to them, so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a region based on Australia sooner or later.

The sad thing is, something like the Wild Area would've made a hell of a lot more sense in a region based on Australia rather than the UK. Australia's a huge wilderness with cities dotted round the outside. The UK's a small island with the odd expanse of green. A Wild Area based on the outback would've been awesome.
