They're "monitoring the situation" likely because there's political capital etc. to be wrung out of this mess if they hold back until a certain point.

I imagine they'll shift to actively "doing something about it" well after things reach a boiling point and someone can use the situation to institute TOTALLY TEMPORARY but extremely draconian measures.

I think at this point anyone who doesn't realize it will absolutely get worse, much worse and not better in any way is deluding themselves.

There's way too much to be gained from allowing a massive flashover and no reason to NOT let it get to that point. The irony in that is that Carlton was rejected by other Black people because of how he acts. Black people are basically segregating each other.
