Suez Canal blocked by grounded container ship since at least 0600 UTC today - Traffic in both directions stopped; Millions of yuros' Amazon delivery dates updated

An RPG literally wont do shit to a ship of that size.
Yes it absolutely would. The keel of the ship is already fucked. There's a bunch of micro-fractures in it already, and it might not even be possible to sail it out of the canal as it stands right now. That ship will never sail again because of the damage that's already been done to it, even if they somehow get it out of the canal without it sinking.

It was grounded on both shores of the canal, with all the weight from the shipping containers in the middle of the ship. The tides have been going up and down, which stresses the fuck out of the entire hull. Think of it like bending a paper clip back and forth a few times. You can do that a couple of times, but then it will snap.

Here's the ship. Everything that's red should be underwater:

They literally have 2 guys and 1 bulldozer trying to dig this fucking ship out. LOL.

....and this is every engineer figuring out what to do:

Oh I completely agree that the ship is done. Its just that using an rpg on it would be like shooting like an elephant that's fallen down a cliff and broken it's spine in the ass with a bb gun. Practically irrelevant. Naval architecture and the literal scale of those ships is something else. Even if you somehow managed to put an rpg directly into its waterline, the normal pumps on it would probably expell water faster than the comparatively small hole your rocket made could let in.

An RPG literally wont do shit to a ship of that size. Now if someone were to stuff a few tons of explosives into a shipping container marked "steel beams" or somesuch, so that it gets loaded into bottom of cargo hold for weight distribution.... Things could get interesting.

Agree with the mega happening part of your post.
A hull of a ship like that is only 20mm thick. Some RPG warheads can even penetrate 400mm. If you use blast fragmentation munition to maximize damage and check the ship plans beforehand to aim at the engine room and/or fuel tanks you would do incredible damage. But the best thing is that RPGs are cheap - you could buy one for daddy Biden's stimmy check. For someone with a connection to the usual euro dark market weapon sources (Bulgaria/Romania/Moldova/Transnistria) they are also as easy to get as AKs

tl;dr any MENA terrorist group could easily destroy one of these ships with a ~$5,000 budget max, and possibly less

At this point digging a new canal around the ship seems more like a solution with every passing hour. All the best wishes to the captain but he is probably made into a sausage.....
They're probably going to have to dig a short side channel where the bow is and pull the ship off to the side so they can dismantle it without blocking the canal. The ship is fucked. They can't try to tow it out of the canal because the hull fractures would likely sink it and cause an even bigger problem. It's not something I'd want to risk, anyway. I'd wager that they're probably going to have to dismantle it on-site instead of risking another huge disaster.

How long would it take to basically dig a "parking spot" big enough for that ship in the side of the canal? It's 400 metres long.

12% of global trade goes through that canal. But it's actually a much larger percentage of global trade. All of the component parts which are assembled in Europe and the US pass through that canal. So if, let's say, Volkswagon can't get the parts they need, they have to shut down. Pretty much all of the computer chips in the world are made in China, so this blockage cuts off ALL of those computer chips to Europe.
Auto production is already shut down because there's a global semiconductor shortage. Entire plants have just been furloughed for 3-4 weeks while they wait for more microcontrollers.

Ok this is starting to look like a /k spergfest but I'll bite.

The engines and fuel tanks on that kind of ship will be below waterline, and usuallly compartmentalised away from outer hull.

RPGs are made for fucking up tanks and bunkers. They dont handle empty space well, and there have been enough 50-60ft patrol boats (basically sportsishers with a fancy radar and a couple of 50s on deck) returning home with multiple RPG hits.

The sheer fucking size of those ships is something else, they have been built to have some chance of survival in case of a wreck, and an RPG hit is a literal mosquito bite compared to what their own mass and speed can do to them.

Now they ARE undercrewed and heavily automated, so if you aim your RPG at the bridge at exactly the right moment...

Whatever happened to that oil tanker off the coast of iran? The one people said might burst? I mean while we are talking about maritime shit shows..

You're right. Israel should nuke it.

Also if some Jihadi were to start shooting some mortars every once in a while, well they wouldn't be able to continue saving the canal until they stopped him.

Edit: OR just hire JAMSHEED THE RPG GOD to kobe it.
