'No Stupid Questions' (NSQ) Internet & Technology Edition

Anyone know any good torrent websites?
RARBG and 1337x are the best general public ones currently. Along with RuTracker if you feel like making an account and translating it. For most stuff that's more specific, you'll have to climb the private tracker ladder starting with Redacted (RED).

Switched back from Chrome to Firefox as my Kiwi browser after a week or two because my computer became haunted. Things behaved strangely. If I had a song minimized in the background, or a video, it would start playing at a random times by itself. It seemed like MPC somehow picked up the spacebar here and there when typing. The Brave windows would become frozen if left unattended for a couple of hours, my scroll wheel is getting pretty bad so I would scroll and scroll waiting for it to take. Minimizing the window and maximizing it would fix it.
What was worse was that sometimes this happened to Chrome as well. The solution was the same, but still...
My windows got moved from one screen to the next, my off-screen showed static once and it was really weird. It works great on my phone and I have used Brave on Linux in the past with no problems.

The r/piracy megathread appears to be OK, and has links to a lot of different torrent sites. TPB.party is one proxy that has been up since TPB did go down, but as the megathread does point out software can't really be trusted from TPB anymore, as there are a lot of different accounts uploading viruses for almost every single search term. I mean you'll probably be OK not downloading obvious viruses, but it just goes to show the complete lack of moderation apparent on the site now.

f/piracy has basically the same thing as well, and it's supported by some of the same mods from r/piracy. Raddle.me bills itself as an "anarchist" reddit.

Piratebay runs too many scripts and I'm usually fine with Limetorrents, it can be used without enabling anything in uMatrix, many of these sites are just indexes of that repository hosting the actual torrent files. TBP also have the downside of doing magnet torrents, which is usually fine, but... I pirate to get music that I own, some I have on vinyl but I don't have a vinyl player anymore and I want to listen on my phone when I'm out, some are on CDs that I accidentally gave to goodwill. It's hard to pirate obscure music that isn't top 20 these day, or so it seems. In the past it was easy to find "[austrian band] Discography" and it's still easy to find that, finding anything that is seeded is tough.

Oh yeah, always kick the tires of the torrent, check sizes and all that.

Speaking of piracy, where do people get roms nowadays? Looking for a WiiWare game that another topic reminded me of.

What's the best email service for me to use, and if I use a non-normie one will employers assume I'm a weirdo with something to hide (I am, but still)

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. Was discussing it in a thread up in Games and realized it would run significantly better nowadays on an emulator. It was a good time, but mid and late game suffered from poor framerates.

Either or I am appreciative!

I posted a some links in another thread, should be good for most roms except modern titles

https://vimm.net/ - ROMs/ISOs up to PS3.
https://cdromance.com/ - ROMs/ISOs. Lots of Japanese only games if you are into the weeb stuff. Has annoying pop-under ads, I usually prefer vimm.
http://the-eye.eu/ - large archive site, a bit like archive.org. I mostly use it for games. Has terminal scripts to download entire archives.

Yes, you should get a normal email address for this use- AOL.com and YAHOO.com are great options, or HOTMAIL.com if you want to live on the wild side.

Seriously though, segregate your mail. There's no reason that emails for a site like this should be going into your regular email inbox.

Cock.li makes it trivially easy to set up a new email address for every website you register for.

Why does Windows 10 no longer want to allow me to open image files with Chrome?
Can you right click and choose "Open with" option? A white box should show up allowing you to choose which program to open, and Chrome should be there. If not, you can click "Choose another program on this PC" at the bottom of the box and then manually point to C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe (or the non-x86 program files if you have 32-bit W10) or whichever drive you installed Chrome at. You can toggle at the white box if you want Chrome to be the default program to open specific image files (like .png or .jpg ones) or go to Settings to enable for all, too.
