Suez Canal blocked by grounded container ship since at least 0600 UTC today - Traffic in both directions stopped; Millions of yuros' Amazon delivery dates updated

I'm not sure this needed a new super duper weapon when common good old sabotage or computer virus could have done it.

Or just even mechanical failiure, was it ever inspected to see if its mechanisms were all totally fine? That egypajeets did not just skip the whole "lets see if the machinery works" and something broke down?

Not that I'm giga effected, Hungary is an agricultural country, and at the very worst we can get the metals we need from our former territory. Tech shit was already eu-taxed to high heaven....

I hope this is the point where the egyptians accidentally damage the hull

“It’s a difficult process. The ship’s bow is still wedged in the canal wall and there could be some structural damage,” this person said. “If you try to yank it out, things could get worse and fuel could spill out."

:story:

The amount of ships stuck on both sides of the canal increased from 156 to 300

At what point do you just cut your losses, evacuate the crew, and sink the damn thing?

Nigga nobody cares about the ship, it's that sinking it there would permanently alter global geopolitics. If it sinks there wars will happen, countries will go bankrupt and governments will be toppled. Imagine butterfly effect but the butterfly weighs 200,000 tonnes

It probably won't happen because each time something is about to happen nothing happens, but just the possibility of this happening is crazy

I'm pretty sure that we're already going to get a major war out of what's already happened there. Some countries are going to be really pissed that global trade got shut down, other countries are probably going to opportunistically attack someone.

Admittedly if there was some kind of plot to wreck the canal, it would be suspicious as hell and immediately uncovered in an investigation that all of the ships lost power at the same time, so it certainly wouldn't be very subtle.
As someone said earlier there this thing call flag of convenience. The shipping industry tries to cut corners as often as possible to save money. So someone being el cheapo is more likely as the cause.

If someone did sabotage multiple ships in the canal then yeah it would be very suspicious. But the amount of damage done would be so severe that no one could retaliate. It like killing off the local police force. Sure it's easier to figure foul play was involved but who's going to do the arresting?

You speak such sweet nothings in my ear.
I hope some thing pops off just in time for movie night. Likely not. I get the feeling something big will happen on Saturday concerning this

Who gets the finger pointed at them, though? The U.S. and China are the biggest ones out there in terms of export/import, and both have clear access to them with the Port of Los Angeles and China's eastern seaports. If China gets blamed (the PRC), China will open up both barrels, and Biden will go along with whatever China does. If Israel gets blamed, America will of course take up arms for it.

Doesn't matter who gets the blame or
who does it. Its the equivalent of setting off an emp that destroys every electronic type of equipment in the world. Things would be so fucked up that no one would be able to do anything about it.

How are there not protocols for this kind of thing? Not that it's an easy fix, but the narrow canal passage is maritime trade 101. They're responding with a few bulldozers and tug boats like they've never considered someone being drunk at the wheel. Imagine if the Houthis manage to land a rocket that far

Exactly. This is going to cause so much general chaos that something is going to happen because of it.
It could even be one country going, "Hey, I can't get my shit from the trade routes anymore. I'm going to go over to my neighbor's and take their shit."
