The Duke of Edinburgh - Prince Philip - has died, Buckingham Palace has said.

The Duke was married to Queen Elizabeth II for more than 70 years and became the longest-serving consort in British history.

He was taken to hospital over Christmas in 2011 for treatment for a blocked artery.

Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born on the island of Corfu in 1921.

At the age of 18, the prince joined the Royal Navy as a cadet.

He saw active service during the Second World War, serving in the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean, and was mentioned in despatches for his bravery.

Prince Philip's concern for young people inspired him to create the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, and he supported more than 800 charities and good causes - focusing on his interests in wildlife conservation, technology and sport.

Dammit. He was the only one I liked.
yeah he was the only interesting one

americans have this weird reverence for the royal family and buy into the idea that they're these sophisticated regal paragons but people in commonwealth countries know better about them- they're a band of intellectually mediocre to sub-mediocre sillybillies rivalled only by boy george and benny hill as the biggest clowns in the united kingdom

that's how harry has been so seduced and manipulated by that narcissistic american octoroon - he just isn't very bright, like the rest of them

philip has been the only one who demonstrated some degree of personality and character, but that might have been because the man was such a walking fossil so far removed from his place and time he only seemed interesting to us on that basis

I feel for the Queen losing a partner after 60+ years together, that's fucking harsh.

I know a lot of people hated him but can't deny he did good charity work. I'm not surprised he died because he had so many health scares over the last few months. Dude looked like he was one foot in deaths door for a while now.
